Even though popular shows like Amphibia, The Owl House, and Gravity Falls aren’t getting new episodes, Disney is still creating exciting new animated series. This year, Disney+ will release The Doomies, a spooky show inspired by the adventures of Gravity Falls, and it’s coming out soon. However, a new show on the streaming service has recently faced controversy – it appears to have been banned in one major region despite a promising start.
I was so excited when Dragon Striker finally premiered on Disney Channel earlier this month, but it turns out it won’t be airing in the Middle East. It’s really frustrating! There’s no official word on why it’s been cancelled over there, but I’m seeing a lot of talk online about a relationship between two of the characters, Odward Stonegarden and Casper Ferreiro. It’s not the first time this has happened either – The Amazing Digital Circus: The Last Act was also banned in the Middle East because it couldn’t meet their requirements for theatrical release. It’s a shame when content gets blocked like this!
Dragon Striker Kicks Back

We recently spoke with the creators of Dragon Striker, Sylvain Dos Santos and Charles Lefebvre, about how the series came to be. Dos Santos explained that their love for anime, particularly sports anime like Inazuma Eleven, Captain Tsubasa, and Eyeshield 21, was the initial inspiration. He noticed these shows often featured impressive visual attacks, but they weren’t usually explained within the story’s world. They wanted Dragon Striker to be different – a show where special moves, like shooting fire, felt natural and magical within the universe, and everyone understood what was happening. This idea led to the creation of the series’ core power, the Tama.
Surprisingly, the show’s creators didn’t initially plan for it to be about soccer. According to Dos Santos, they first envisioned the characters playing rugby, as it’s a popular sport in France. However, after talking with Disney, they realized soccer had much broader appeal. It wasn’t just better for marketing; soccer also connects with more people emotionally. All you need is one ball to play, and it’s a sport enjoyed worldwide, making the show more accessible to a global audience.
