Disney has announced it’s working on a live-action remake based on a character from the Peter Pan universe. This will be the seventh live-action remake the studio has planned, joining projects like those for Moana and Tangled. Disney has a history of creating these remakes, and 2025 saw the release of live-action versions of Snow White and Lilo & Stitch. The company plans to keep making these remakes for both movie theaters and streaming.
Disney is working on a new Tinker Bell series called Tink, according to Variety. The studio considers it a key project, and Liz Heldens and Bridget Carpenter will be writing and executive producing it.

Disney is currently working on a live-action remake of Tink, which would be their seventh. Other live-action remakes in development include those of Moana, Tangled, Hercules, Lilo & Stitch 2, Bambi, and Maleficent 3.
Tinker Bell is a beloved Disney character who has appeared in numerous films, starting with her debut in the 1953 animated classic, Peter Pan, and most recently in the 2023 live-action adaptation, Peter & Wendy.
Attempts to make a live-action Tinker Bell movie have fallen through before. In 2010, Elizabeth Banks was set to star in a romantic comedy version called Tink, but the project was canceled. Then, in 2015, Reese Witherspoon was planned to star in another live-action film, but that one also didn’t move forward.
Every Disney Live-Action Remake In Development
Moana

Disney’s upcoming live-action Moana movie is a remake of the 2016 animated movie.
The upcoming film will closely retell the story of Moana, following her journey across the ocean to restore the heart of Te Fiti and rescue her people. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson returns as the demigod Maui, and Catherine Laga’aia stars as Moana. The movie is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 10th.
Tangled

A live-action remake of Tangled is generating buzz with a talented cast. Teagan Croft, known for her role in Titans, will play Rapunzel, while Milo Manheim from School Spirits is set to be Flynn Rider. Recently, Kathryn Hahn, famous for Agatha All Along, joined the project as Mother Gothel.
Now that the main actors for Tangled have been chosen, the movie is moving forward quickly and could begin production soon. Michael Gracey is directing, and Jennifer Kaytin Robinson wrote the screenplay.
Hercules

In 2022, Disney announced (according to the New York Times) that they were working on a live-action version of Hercules. The Russo Brothers, known for their work on Marvel films, will produce, and Guy Ritchie, who directed the live-action Aladdin, is set to direct.
Despite delays caused by the actors’ and writers’ strikes, reports in October 2025 suggested the beloved ’90s Disney movie is still moving forward as a musical. Interestingly, rumors indicate this remake will center around the character of Hades, rather than the original hero.
Lilo & Stitch 2

The success of Lilo & Stitch proved there’s still a strong audience for live-action remakes, as it became a major box office hit in 2025. Because of this, Disney has confirmed they’re working on a sequel, though they haven’t revealed any details about the story or when it will be released.
Some fans believe a potential Lilo & Stitch 2 might explore Stitch’s continued development by introducing the character Angel (Experiment 624), building on his story from the first film.
Maleficent 3

Disney began developing a third Maleficent movie as early as 2021, with Angelina Jolie and writer Linda Woolverton both set to return for the project.
Joachim Rønning, who directed Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, has expressed interest in making another film in the series. He told Screen Rant in September 2025 that he’s “always interested in a good story.” However, there haven’t been any further updates about a potential Maleficent 3 since then.
Bambi

In January 2020, Variety reported that Disney is planning a live-action remake of Bambi, following the success of their live-action versions of The Lion King and The Jungle Book.
Disney’s planned live-action remake of Bambi appears to be stalled. In February 2026, screenwriter Geneva Robertson-Dworet revealed to TopMob that she hadn’t received any news about the project in at least five years, suggesting it may have been cancelled or put on hold.
