Disney+ Brings Back Ahsoka Without Rosario Dawson

The popular Star Wars character Ahsoka Tano is back on Disney+ in a new series, and the actress providing her voice is someone fans will recognize. Rosario Dawson is well-known for portraying Ahsoka in the live-action Disney+ show of the same name, which is getting a second season soon. But before Ahsoka had her own series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels featured Ahsoka’s voice, performed by Ashley Eckstein.

As a huge Star Wars fan, I have to say Ahsoka’s newest form is a fun surprise! She’s been reimagined as a LEGO Brickheadz figure for LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy – Pieces of the Past. But that’s not all – in the Disney+ miniseries, we see her swoop in during Part Two to rescue Sig (Gaten Matarazzo) and Jaxxon (Ben Schwartz) from a rather hungry Chewbacca! We also learn she’s a key leader at the Freehold, dedicated to protecting people from the villain, Solitus (Dan Stevens). From there, Ahsoka teams up with Sig and his crew to finally put a stop to Solitus throughout the rest of the series. It’s really cool to see her in this new light!

Viewers might also notice a change regarding Ahsoka’s voice in this new Disney+ series. Instead of Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Dawson), Ashley Eckstein is back to voice the character, reprising her The Clone Wars role. This solidifies Eckstein as the official voice for Ahsoka in animated projects.

Ashley Eckstein, the voice of Ahsoka Tano for more than ten years across many Star Wars projects, explained to ComicsOnline that her vocal performance remained consistent when portraying the Jedi character in LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy – Pieces of the Past.

Honestly, my voice work for Ahsoka stayed exactly the same! I approached recording this project just like I would an episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The only thing I really think about when I’m voicing her is how old she is in that particular story – that’s the one conscious adjustment I make.

Eckstein clarified that Ahsoka’s voice changes as she gets older. Her voice is deeper in the later seasons than when she was first introduced as a young Padawan in the early The Clone Wars seasons. For LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy – Pieces of the Past, Eckstein shared that her portrayal of the character in this version is “Season 7 Ahsoka,” which is evident through her “[The Mandalorian] inspired costume:”

This is Ahsoka from Season 7. It’s after she’s left the Jedi Order, and she’s experienced a lot by this point. I’m very aware of her age as a result. Whenever I record lines for Ahsoka, I always start by asking what outfit she’s wearing, because that immediately tells me how old she is at that moment. I also ask where she is in the story and what she’s gone through. So, as you can see, she’s wearing the ‘The Mandalorian‘-inspired costume. Again, this is Season 7 Ahsoka.

This version of Ahsoka could feel unexpected in the funny world of LEGO Star Wars, but Ashley Eckstein told Nerd Reactor that “Ahsoka herself doesn’t realize she’s in a comedy. She takes everything very seriously.” The actor explained that she made sure her performance matched how she’d played Ahsoka before, so that “it still feels like the same Ahsoka from [The Clone Wars]:”

Ahsoka remains true to her character. She doesn’t realize, or believe, she’s in a funny or comedic world; she takes everything very seriously. Therefore, the show will still feel like Ahsoka, with her continuing to help others and pursue her goals. Rest assured, Ahsoka won’t suddenly become a comedic character; it will maintain the same feel as The Clone Wars.

Ahsoka first appeared in The Clone Wars as the Padawan learner of Anakin Skywalker. She later grew frustrated with the Jedi Order and decided to forge her own destiny. This journey led her to help the early Rebel Alliance, and she worked with the crew of the Ghost on several important missions in Star Wars Rebels. The story continues with Ahsoka on Disney+, picking up after the events of Rebels. She has also made appearances in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, with Dawson portraying the character.

I’m so excited about LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy – Pieces of the Past! It’s a four-part series that everyone is loving – the reviews are almost perfect. It’s being led by Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit, and the voice cast is amazing, including Gaten Matarazzo, Tony Revolori, Dan Stevens, Mark Hamill, and even Ahmed Best! I was thrilled to see it finally released on Disney+ on September 19, 2025.

What is Ahsoka’s Future in the Star Wars Galaxy?

Many fans are thrilled to see Eckstein reprise her role as Ahsoka, a character they’ve come to adore through the animated series. The strong fan base for Ahsoka significantly contributed to Lucasfilm’s decision to develop her story further in her own series, and has also established her as a key figure within the Mandalorian universe.

Even though Dawson now plays Ahsoka in live-action – and the character will return in Season 2 of Ahsoka on Disney+ – fans who loved Eckstein’s portrayal can still hear her voice the character in animated series like LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy – Pieces of the Past. If LEGO Star Wars gets additional seasons, Eckstein will probably continue to voice Ahsoka in those too.

Eckstein has expressed her desire to see more Ahsoka-centered animated stories, recently telling ComicBook.com that she “would love to have an animated Ahsoka movie someday.” Even though Star Wars: The Clone Wars, The Bad Batch and Rebels have finished, Lucasfilm is still growing the animated Star Wars world with new content. Because there are still many unanswered parts of Ahsoka’s history, a dedicated animated film for the character remains a possibility.
