Disney+’s popular original series is back after almost two years, taking viewers on a new, exciting journey inspired by Greek mythology. December has been a busy month for new shows on the platform, with releases like Are You Sure?! and Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw. Now, subscribers can also enjoy the first two episodes of the streamer’s top fantasy show.
The second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians began streaming on December 10th with the release of two episodes. Based on Rick Riordan’s popular book series, the show follows Percy Jackson, a young demigod and son of Poseidon. This season covers The Sea of Monsters, where Percy embarks on a dangerous quest to find the Golden Fleece and protect Camp Half-Blood. All eight episodes are available weekly on Wednesdays on Disney+, with the season finale arriving on January 21st.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 Crashes Onto Disney+ With a Perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes Score
Disney+’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians has become a massive hit, earning both record viewership and positive reviews from critics and fans. While previous movie adaptations of Rick Riordan’s popular books received mixed reactions, the Disney+ series has been a resounding success. The first season broke viewership records for Disney Branded Television and received a 91% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, praised for its close adherence to the source material. Now, Season 2 is back and even more acclaimed, achieving a perfect 100% score from critics.
Season 2 received strong positive reviews, with many critics noting its continued success after a promising first season. Nicole Drum of ComicBook gave it 4 out of 5 stars, praising the character development, expanded storyline, and exciting action, stating it felt divinely inspired. Lissete Lanuza Sáenz from fangirlish called it a “home run,” highlighting that it’s bigger, more playful, and potentially even better than Season 1. Reviewers particularly appreciated the season’s more mature themes, deeper exploration of characters, and emotional resonance. While making some changes to the original story, these adjustments were seen as improvements, resulting in a more thrilling and adventurous experience.
Whether Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 will be as popular as the first season is still unknown, but the show has quickly become a hit again with its return to streaming. It’s currently the second most popular show on Disney+, proving that fans are still very engaged with the series.
Will There Be a Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 3?
Even though there are six episodes of Season 2 still to come, viewers don’t need to worry – Season 3 is already confirmed! Disney+ renewed Percy Jackson and the Olympians for a third season way back in March. Season 3 will be based on the third book in Rick Riordan’s series, The Titan’s Curse. Filming started in August, but we don’t know when it will be released yet.
