Competition is intensifying among anime streaming services, with platforms racing to offer a wide range of both classic and new shows. While Crunchyroll and HIDIVE specialize in anime, larger services like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video are creating their own original anime content. Now, Disney+ has entered the fray, announcing a major exclusive anime adaptation based on a well-known video game series. Fans can expect a fresh take on one of Hideo Kojima’s most popular games in 2027.
The Death Stranding franchise currently includes two games, but creator Hideo Kojima has big plans to expand the post-apocalyptic world in unexpected ways. He recently announced an anime film called Death Stranding: Mosquito, and a separate animated series for Disney+ planned for release in 2027, currently titled Death Stranding: Isolations. The Disney+ series will follow characters similar to Sam Porter Bridges, focusing on their struggles to survive and connect with others in this new world. You can see a first look at the upcoming anime below.
The Isolation of a New World

I’m so excited about this new anime! It was revealed at Disney’s APAC Showcase, and Hideo Kojima shared how much anime actually means to him. He said growing up with it really formed how he sees the world. Plus, he’s been a Disney fan since he was a kid – he was thrilled they even showed his documentary on their platform, and that’s why he jumped at the chance to collaborate with them on this project. It’s amazing to see these worlds colliding!
The studio behind the upcoming anime series has been announced: it’s E&H Production, the same team that created the anime for Death Stranding: Isolations. E&H is a relatively new studio, founded just four years ago by animator Sunghoo Park. Park is known for his work on popular series like Jujutsu Kaisen, Zombie Land Saga, and The God of High School. E&H recently collaborated with Adult Swim on Ninja Kamui, a successful original anime that has already been renewed for two more seasons.
The popular video game Death Stranding is expanding beyond gaming, with a live-action movie currently in development. Hideo Kojima announced the project, which will be a collaboration between his studio, Kojima Productions, and A24 Films. Michael Sarnoski, known for directing films like A Quiet Place: Day One and Pig, is set to direct. It’s currently unknown if Norman Reedus or other actors from the original game will be involved in the movie.
