Epcot’s Frozen Ever After ride is a bit of a mixed bag for many Disney World visitors. While the ride is incredibly popular thanks to the success of the *Frozen* movies, some guests still miss the previous attraction, Maelstrom. However, most Disney fans can agree on one thing: the animatronic figures on the ride aren’t very impressive.
When the Frozen Ever After ride first opened less than a decade ago, it featured a new type of animatronic figure. Instead of sculpted faces, the characters’ expressions were projected onto their faces. While this was intended to make them more lifelike, the animatronics have always appeared somewhat strange. They haven’t quite measured up to traditional animatronics, or even the latest designs, but improvements are on the way.

Frozen Ever After Will Get New Audio-Animatronics
As a huge Disney fan, I was really excited when Disneyland Paris and Hong Kong Disneyland announced their new World of Frozen lands – and that they’d both be getting the Frozen Ever After ride. What really caught my eye was the new Elsa animatronic – it looked amazing! Of course, everyone immediately started asking Disney to update the Epcot version with these same characters. Well, today Disney finally announced what’s happening, and it looks like we’ll see those changes in early 2026!
That’s great news! The new image looks much improved compared to the original at the beginning of the article. The idea of using projected faces on the animatronics was creative, and it’s understandable what the Imagineers were aiming for, but unfortunately, it didn’t quite work as well as hoped. Plus, it seems maintaining those projected faces was surprisingly challenging, so the Imagineering team likely welcomes this update.
Even More New Audio Animatronics Are Coming To Disney Parks
Along with the updates to Frozen Ever After, Disney has revealed a first look at a new figure for the upcoming Zootopia: Better Together attraction, which will debut at Disney’s Animal Kingdom next month.
There’s exciting news about the Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets! We knew Scooter would appear as an audio-animatronic in the pre-show, but Disney has confirmed he won’t be the only new animatronic on the ride. While they haven’t said who or what else will be added, I’m hoping it’s the hilariously critical Statler and Waldorf, offering some playful jabs at riders before the launch.
Disneyland recently unveiled a remarkably lifelike audio-animatronic figure of Walt Disney, and now a second Walt figure is coming to Magic Kingdom as part of the Carousel of Progress’s new pre-show experience.
