Disney’s Beloved Animated Reboot is Now Free to Watch

For years, Disney Afternoon was a cornerstone of the Disney entertainment studio, bringing popular original animated series to audiences in the 1990s. Shows like Gargoyles, Darkwing Duck, Bonkers, Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers, and Goof Troop are still beloved by fans. Although not every show got a sequel or remake, some have managed to stay relevant. Now, a major Disney Afternoon remake has unexpectedly returned, and it’s available to watch for free.

The popular animated series DuckTales made a comeback in 2017 with three new seasons, updating the classic story of Scrooge McDuck and his nephews with fresh animation and a new voice cast. It originally aired on Disney XD before moving to the Disney Channel, and ran until 2021. The show quickly became a hit, featuring well-known actors like David Tennant (from Dr. Who), Danny Pudi (Community), Beck Bennett (Saturday Night Live), and Kate Micucci (Steven Universe). Now, Disney has made the entire first season available to watch for free on YouTube in one long, over nine-hour video!

Ducktales’ Mysterious Future

Now that the show has finished, there haven’t been any announcements about a new DuckTales reboot or if we’ll see this version return in any way. It’s good to know that Scrooge McDuck and a lot of the other popular characters still appear in things. Scrooge, for instance, regularly shows up in new Marvel Comics stories. Interestingly, one character who really benefited from the series might be getting his own reboot soon.

The second season of DuckTales introduced a fresh version of the Disney superhero Darkwing Duck. Actor Chris Diamantopoulos voiced the character, and original voice actor Jim Cummings also returned, playing a different role. Last year, Cummings revealed he’d be reprising his role in a future reboot, and mentioned Seth Rogen’s participation in the project.

It’s about time this project is happening, and thankfully, everyone involved is still around! Seth Rogen, an old friend, is taking a leading role in getting it made, so keep an eye out for updates. Currently, the project is still being developed, and there’s no confirmed release date yet. Given how popular Disney’s duck characters have been for years, it’s likely Drake Mallard will make a comeback eventually.
