Disney is increasingly exploring anime, and their latest project is a live-action adaptation of the highly acclaimed horror manga, Flowers of Evil. Following the success of Star Wars: Visions, Disney+ and Hulu have announced the release date and cast for this new series, which promises a chilling and captivating story.
The new series, Flowers of Evil, will premiere in Japan on April 9th, meaning fans have less than two months to wait. While it doesn’t rely on typical horror tropes like monsters or masked killers, the show promises a deeply unsettling experience. The story centers around Takeo Kasuga, a reserved teenager, and how a chance encounter with the cheerful Sawa Nakamura leads him down a dark path. It’s shaping up to be more of a psychological thriller than a supernatural story, and the production boasts a strong cast.
Who Will be The Flowers of Evil?
The series has added several new actors to its cast, including Aruno Nakanishi as Aya Tokiwa, Manami Igashira as Nanako Saeki, and Chihiro Sudo as Ai Kinoshita. Tomoharu Hasegawa will play Tetsuo, Noriko Nakagoshi will be Shizue, Mahiru Konno will play Mayumi, Keisuke Horibe will be Kazuyuki, and Akiko Hinagata will play Shino. The new actors also shared their excitement about joining the show, which is known for its spooky atmosphere.
Manami Igashira, who plays Saeki Nanako, described her experience with the role as deeply impactful. She was moved and surprised by the original story and found the character challenging, often grappling with unfamiliar emotions. While filming proved more difficult than expected, the cast and crew supported each other throughout the process. Manami fully immersed herself in the role, dedicating herself to understanding Saeki’s complexities, and is excited for viewers to see the final result.
Manami is joined by Arno Nakanishi, who shared his thoughts on playing Aya in the adaptation of Flowers of Evil. He said the story’s honest and sometimes difficult portrayal of teenage life really resonated with him, even though it was a bit embarrassing to admit. He believes the characters will stay with viewers long after the story ends, and he was thrilled to be a part of such a passionate and heartfelt project. He encourages everyone to watch it.
