Super Bowl LX featured trailers for several highly anticipated movies coming out this year. We got new glimpses of footage from Scream 7, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Hoopers, and Disclosure Day, plus a significant amount of new content from Project Hail Mary. Netflix surprised viewers with the first look at The Adventures of Cliff Booth, starring Brad Pitt. Perhaps the biggest surprise of the night was that the new Star Wars movie, The Mandalorian & Grogu, didn’t show any actual footage – instead, it aired a Budweiser commercial parodying the Star Wars universe.
The biggest shock of the night was Marvel Studios completely sitting out the Super Bowl. This was a major departure from their usual strategy, as they’ve shared trailers or clips at the event every year since 2010 – often for big movies like Deadpool & Wolverine or new Disney+ shows. This year, there was nothing, and fans noticed! However, Marvel and Disney have now announced they’re looking ahead to next year’s Super Bowl, which will be broadcast on ABC, and are already starting to generate excitement.
Disney’s Teaser for 2027 Super Bowl Has MCU Fans on High Alert
Disney is already building excitement for Super Bowl LXI in 2027! In a new online video, various Disney-owned brands are promoting the event, even though we don’t yet know which teams will be playing. The campaign playfully flips the famous “I’m going to Disneyland!” line often said by game winners, saying “We’re going to the Super Bowl.” Fans are now looking forward to next year, hoping Disney will use the Super Bowl as a platform to release trailers and teasers for upcoming movies, especially Avengers: Secret Wars.
Fans reacted to the lack of Marvel trailers during the Super Bowl with a mix of hopeful anticipation and playful criticism. Skipping the event actually makes sense for Marvel – they’ve already successfully released four trailers for Avengers: Doomsday that have garnered millions of views, saving them the $10 million a Super Bowl spot can cost. However, it’s likely we’ll see a trailer next year, possibly for Avengers: Secret Wars.
I’m so excited for Avengers: Doomsday coming out this December! While it’s pretty likely the movie will hint at what’s coming in Secret Wars, it’s not a sure thing. But the timing is really interesting. Doomsday hits theaters on December 18th, and the next Super Bowl is on Valentine’s Day in 2027 – that gives Marvel eight weeks to build hype for Secret Wars. And since Secret Wars is the only Marvel movie planned for 2027, if we don’t get a little sneak peek at the end of Doomsday, a Super Bowl trailer just makes total sense!
Look, all this talk about what Marvel might show at the Super Bowl next year? It’s all a bit up in the air, honestly. Avengers: Doomsday has already shifted dates once, and while their teasers are currently building toward a December 18th release, things can change fast in the movie world. So, yeah, we might get a glimpse of Avengers: Secret Wars during the Super Bowl, but it’s worth remembering we haven’t even seen a full trailer for Doomsday yet! And get this – they haven’t filmed a single shot of Secret Wars as of right now. It’s exciting to speculate, but let’s not count our chickens before they hatch.
