Dispatch Ending Explained: What Kind Of Hero You Are Sets Up Very Different Future For The Series

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Dispatch episodes 7 & 8

Dispatch is a recent addition to the growing trend of superhero games with flawed characters, but it stands out as one of the most satisfying. Developed by AdHoc Studio, it builds upon the formula established by studios like TellTale Games, but improves it with a stronger connection between gameplay and story. This allows for a unique and emotionally engaging plot.

All of these elements come together in the last part of the game, with the final two episodes resolving the consequences of every choice you’ve made. It’s especially important to note that playing as a heroic character throughout the game is crucial for success in the final episode. This is how Dispatch rewards players who prioritize empathy and hints at the possibility of a follow-up story.

Mecha-Man To The Rescue

The final episode of Dispatch offers several different ways to finish the story. While some paths involve facing challenges on your own or distancing yourself from the Z-Team, the most hopeful ending comes from choosing to improve yourself and uniting with the former villains. As you approach the end of Dispatch, the conflict shifts to the SDN’s headquarters with the arrival of Shroud and his army.

With the Z-Team now here, the chances of winning are much better, particularly after Blonde Blazer gives Chase her amulet, bringing him back into the action. But winning still depends on making the right decisions. Players can try to deceive Shroud and convince him to destroy his own army. Invisigal is key to protecting Robert and Beef, but whether she becomes a hero or returns to being a villain depends on how the player has interacted with her throughout the game.

Finally, players face a crucial decision about Shroud’s destiny, highlighting the kind of hero they’ve shaped Robert into. The last chapter wraps up many storylines, resolving the romantic relationships between Robert, Invisi-Gal, and Blonde Blazer, and even determining the fate of a previously cut character who returns as a villain. Ultimately, the story’s ending depends on the player’s choices, though one particular outcome feels especially fitting and satisfying.

The Hero Path

Players will likely experience the story in their own way, but ultimately, teamwork and understanding each other are crucial for achieving a good outcome. This is reflected in how you assign heroes during the game, and it also significantly impacts the ending, leading to a more satisfying conclusion if you prioritize a collaborative approach. I personally chose to play this way, and I was very pleased with the result.

I developed a real connection with Blonde Blazer, seeing the person, Mandy, behind the superhero persona, and we ultimately became a couple. I made amends with Sonar after having to let him go from the team, and later was able to help him avoid arrest. I guided Invisi-Gal, encouraging her to continue being a hero. I even showed mercy to Shroud, believing that’s what a hero would do. This resulted in a positive outcome for everyone, a satisfying conclusion to the superhero story that effectively tied together the themes explored throughout the season’s eight episodes.

When sending heroes on missions, they often argue and clash, and the complex team dynamics in “Synergy” can be a lot to handle. However, the game really shines when teammates learn to work together effectively. I discovered that certain hero pairings – like Flamebae and Prism, Golem and Invisigal, Punch Up and Coupé, and even Malevola with Waterboy – were particularly strong. By repeatedly sending these pairs on missions and improving their teamwork, I eventually reached a point where I could reliably achieve a 96% success rate on even the most difficult challenges, simply by choosing the right partners.

Honestly, playing through this, it really felt like the Z-Team became a team. Everyone thought the Phoenix Program was a bad call at first, but it totally paid off. And the big bad, Shroud, who kept saying he could predict everything? Yeah, that fell apart when Invisigal jumped in front of a bullet for Robert! It was awesome. The coolest part? Even though this hero got kicked off the team earlier, I actually got to bring them back and reunite everyone on the Z-Team. It felt really good to finish with the whole group together.

The Phoenix Program has the potential to become renowned as the leading team within the SDN. To achieve this, it should fully embrace classic superhero themes. Despite its mature content – the swearing, violence, and adult situations – Dispatch is, at its heart, a genuine superhero story. It champions doing what’s right and showing compassion, even to villains, and ultimately delivers a satisfying and uplifting experience.

Every Choice Matters

Honestly, the story can go in so many directions, which is amazing! You can play as Robert and really keep to himself, never revealing who he is. I found it surprisingly easy to start a relationship with Invisigal, but things don’t necessarily have a happy ending with her – she might just decide being a hero isn’t for her. And if you let Robert give in to his anger – which honestly, the game kind of nudges you to do sometimes – things can get really dark, even leading to Shroud’s death right in front of everyone. You can even choose to stay angry at the hero who betrayed everyone and go down a much tougher, more unforgiving path. It’s all up to you!

This game is a standout “choose your own adventure” title because every choice feels meaningful and well-developed. Your decisions truly matter, and mistakes can have lasting consequences. What’s even more impressive is how consistently high-quality everything is – from the exciting action and smooth animation to the compelling story and excellent performances.

Wow, this game is just brilliantly made! It really shows what this type of game can be when everything clicks. I’m already planning to jump back in and explore different choices, and I’m super curious to see how other people team up and play together. It’s such a fresh take on a familiar genre, and I’m really excited to see what the community thinks and where the game goes next!

The story wraps up nicely on its own, but there’s a lot of potential for more. The relationships between the characters could become more complex and create new conflicts at work. New dangers could emerge now that Shroud is gone. The game could even go in two completely different directions, depending on what Invisigal chooses to do. Overall, the ending was fantastic, and I’m really hoping we get a second season!
