A PlayStation 5 version of the popular RPG, Divinity: Original Sin 2 Definitive Edition, recently appeared online early, leading people to wonder when it would officially release. Now, Larian Studios has surprised everyone by launching it today as a free upgrade for existing players.

If you already own Divinity: Original Sin 2 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, or Nintendo Switch, you can upgrade to the newer versions for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, or Nintendo Switch 2 at no cost.

The game originally came out on PC in 2017 and was later brought to consoles. It’s set in the world of Rivellon, where the gods have disappeared and new dangers are rising. Players can choose to play as one of six pre-made characters or create their own unique hero.

This update brings a major improvement: gameplay now runs at a smooth 60 frames per second on newer consoles. Plus, the Xbox Series X version takes up significantly less storage space than the older Xbox One X version, freeing up room on your SSD.

This announcement follows Larian Studios’ reveal of their next project, *Divinity*, at the Game Awards 2025. The teaser trailer suggests a dark and violent game, featuring unsettling imagery like human sacrifices and disturbing rituals – and that’s *before* the main events even begin.

While a release date hasn’t been announced, it’s a good time for *Baldur’s Gate 3* fans to explore previous games in the *Divinity* series.

Larian Studios says you don’t need to play *Divinity: Original Sin 2* to enjoy the new game, but it will enhance your experience and allow familiar players to catch more of the story’s connections.

You can currently find *Divinity: Original Sin 2* on sale for $18 on Xbox, $45 on GOG for Windows PC, $60 on PlayStation, and $25 on Nintendo Switch.
