We recently received the trailer for DJ AHMET, a delightful first feature film from Georgi M. Unkovski. It’s a coming-of-age story about a boy who discovers freedom and expression through dance music.
Fifteen-year-old Ahmet lives in a small, traditional Yörük village in North Macedonia. He finds solace in dance music as he deals with his father’s wishes, the strict rules of his community, and the challenges of falling for a girl who is engaged to another man.
The film premiered to enthusiastic reviews at the Sundance Film Festival, winning both the Audience Award and a Special Jury Award for its innovative approach. It continued to gain recognition with successful showings at festivals around the world, including the BFI London Film Festival.
Georgi M. Unkovski’s first film is a charming and funny story about the power of music to bring people together and set them free. It stars a promising young cast—many appearing on screen for the very first time—and features a lively, diverse soundtrack, creating a bright and engaging look at young people and artistic expression.
DJ AHMET is released in UK & Irish cinemas 27th March 2026
