Doctor Strange 2 Writer Addresses Rumors He Hadn’t Seen WandaVision

So, there’s been a lot of talk about Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and the writer recently cleared something up that I was really curious about. Apparently, some fans were wondering if he’d actually seen WandaVision before writing the script. He finally addressed it, which is great because WandaVision is so important to the story! It’s good to know he was aware of what was happening there.

What did Doctor Strange 2’s writer say?

During a recent Reddit Q&A, writer Michael Waldron explained his inspiration for the character Wanda in the sequel. He said he drew on the development of both Strange and Wanda across their previous appearances, and playfully responded to criticism from those who questioned whether he’d actually watched the Disney+ series featuring her.

Waldron explained he enjoyed delving deeper into Doctor Strange’s desire for control, particularly after the events of Infinity War and Endgame. He noted this paralleled Wanda Maximoff’s own battle with control as shown in WandaVision, and confirmed he followed the series closely despite online claims to the contrary.

Many people believed the writer of the 2022 movie hadn’t watched WandaVision before writing it, and this was later supported by Elizabeth Olsen. In 2023, Olsen explained the show wasn’t completed when the movie was being written, and she felt she had to change her performance to avoid repeating Wanda’s story arc in the Doctor Strange sequel.

Waldron appears to have resolved the debate with his recent statements, and he also shared some insights into how he approached the film’s creation.
