Eagerly anticipated since its announcement earlier this year, Channel 5’s upcoming detective drama titled “Ellis” is now within reach, and here’s the first glimpse of the show for us!
Additionally, Channel 5 unveiled a couple of sneak peeks featuring Sharon D Clarke as Ellis, the main character, from their upcoming series lineup.
1. One image depicts Clarke, positioned above, standing thoughtfully in a hallway that appears to be a police station and gazing contemplatively out of a window, while another portrays her and DS Harper (Andrew Gower) bending over a corpse situated within the center of a crime scene.
Although the pictures don’t reveal many details, it seems likely that the upcoming series will take a hard-edged approach, delving into the detective genre for the network.
According to the official summary for Ellis, the series will focus on Detective Chief Inspector Ellis, a determined officer who steps in to solve cases where other investigations have faltered.
In each two-hour installment, Ellis, along with her trusted associate DS Harper, find themselves at a distinct police headquarters. Their mission is to earn the trust of the local investigators and delve deep into the mysteries they’ve been dispatched to unravel.
Ellis, as a Black woman police officer, often encounters disregard and neglect, yet she stands out as an exceptional homicide detective. Her unwavering commitment to justice and her profound empathy for those in need are her defining qualities.
Speaking about the release of new images for Channel 5’s autumn lineup and upcoming dramas, Sebastian Cardwell, the head of drama and deputy chief content officer, expressed excitement: “We’re in high spirits with drama productions at Channel 5! Our upcoming autumn schedule is bursting with fresh series that our viewers will find irresistible.”
In the realm of detective mysteries, intense dramas, mind-bending psychological thrillers, and a stellar cast of British artists to breathe life into these tales, you’re sure to find entertainment tailored to all tastes.
Currently, no additional cast members have been announced for the character Ellis. However, we do know that Holby City’s Clarke will be paired with Andrew Gower in a professional capacity. Gower is recognized for his roles in Outlander, Carnival Row, and Miss Scarlet and the Duke.
Apart from her extended tenure at Holby, Clarke is recognized for her performances in BBC One’s Showtrial, Doctor Who, Informer, and Red, White & Royal Blue.
Although a specific launch date hasn’t been announced as of now, it’s confirmed that character Ellis will appear on your screens this fall, so keep an eye out!
