Doctor Who boss reveals future of new spin-off – and promises “powerful” credits scene

With the premiere of the Doctor Who spin-off, The War Between the Land and the Sea, fast approaching, the show’s creators and cast have released a fascinating new preview of the five-episode BBC series.

The new show focusing on UNIT – the organization that defends Earth from alien threats – is coming to BBC One and iPlayer. Starring Russell Tovey, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and Jemma Redgrave, it’s expected to have a thrilling post-credits scene that fans of Doctor Who will love.

Okay, so I was chatting with a Doctor Who veteran, and he’s being super coy about whether we’ll see the Doctor pop up in this new project. He stressed that just because his name is attached doesn’t mean a full-on Doctor appearance is happening. He did hint, though, that if you stick around after the credits start rolling, you might get something special – so definitely don’t switch off the TV immediately!

With fans eagerly anticipating the next installment of Doctor Who, especially after the dramatic ending featuring Billie Piper and the promise of a Christmas special in 2026, it’s great to see the BBC continuing to build the show’s universe with a new spin-off series, adding to the existing favorites like Torchwood, The Sarah Jane Adventures, and Class.

As a huge Sea Devils fan, I’m so excited for the new series! It looks like it’s going to be a really gripping story – a political thriller that tackles important issues like pollution and climate change, all set in the amazing underwater world we know and love. Plus, they’ve got a fantastic cast lined up, so I can’t wait to see how it all plays out!

The connection between Tovey’s character, Barclay, and Mbatha-Raw’s Sea Devil, Salt, will be the heart of the show, and their relationship will profoundly change both of them.

Davies really raves about the acting, hinting that one particular performance culminates in an incredibly powerful and unforgettable finale. Sounds fantastic!

When asked about potential future seasons, the actor who plays Loki said he feels this part of the story is complete on its own. However, he hinted there’s plenty more story to explore, suggesting the show’s creator, Russell, might have further plans.
