As a seasoned gamer and longtime Doctor Who fan, I find myself both surprised and disheartened by the recent events unfolding in the Whoniverse. The removal of an episode like “Fear Her” from BBC iPlayer is a stark reminder that even beloved shows have their dark corners. It’s unfortunate to see such a gem disappear due to associations with controversial figures, but it’s a necessary step towards maintaining integrity and accountability.
As a devoted fan, I’ve noticed that an episode of “Doctor Who” titled “Fear Her” has vanished from BBC iPlayer. This streaming service, operated by the UK’s BBC, offers a wide range of shows including my favorite, “Doctor Who.” In this series, various actors embody the Time Lord who journeys through different realities using a TARDIS spaceship. Sadly, it appears that the episode has been removed due to Huw Edwards, a news anchor, admitting guilt in charges related to indecent child images.
In a fresh clip from the “Fear Her” episode of Doctor Who, which was broadcast during the second season and starred David Tennant and Billie Piper, Huw Edwards’ voice can be heard. Online records dating back to last month indicate that this particular episode is still available on the Player platform. The description for “Fear Her” goes like this: “The Doctor takes Rose to watch the Olympics, but a young girl could potentially endanger billions of lives.” Edwards’ voice is heard reacting to an incident at a sports stadium where a girl named Chloe Webber causes everyone to vanish.
In a shocking turn of events, as depicted in the deleted recording, Edwards exclaims, “My word, what’s happening here? The crowd has apparently disappeared right before my eyes!” He continues, expressing disbelief, “This can’t be. Could we possibly speak with you in the booth, Bob? Bob? Even you seem to have vanished?”
The BBC has taken down an episode of The Great British Menu featuring Huw Edwards as a guest judge from iPlayer.
Doctor Who spinoff announced at San Diego Comic-Con
During the San Diego Comic-Con on a Friday, Disney Branded Television and BBC unveiled the upcoming spinoff series titled “The War Between the Land and the Sea“, which is a new installment in the Doctor Who universe. This announcement introduced a five-part series’ cast featuring Russell Tovey (known from Feud and American Horror Story: NYC) and Gugu Mbatha-Raw (familiar from Surface and Loki) along with some recurring Doctor Who characters, including Jemma Redgrave as Kate Lethbridge-Stewart and Alexander Devrient as Colonel Ibrahim. The title suggests that the series will reintroduce a classic species from Doctor Who, the Sea Devils, last seen in “Legend of the Sea Devils,” one of the 2022 Doctor Who specials.
The official summary for “The War Between the Land and the Sea” goes as follows: “Upon the sudden appearance of a formidable, age-old creature from the sea, humanity finds itself in a perilous predicament. As the entire world stands on the brink, UNIT leaps into action to combat the escalating conflict between land and sea.” The acclaimed producer and showrunner of “Doctor Who,” Russell T Davies, is responsible for creating “The War Between the Land and the Sea” along with Pete McTighe, who has worked on shows such as “A Discovery of Witches,” “The Pact,” and “Doctor Who.”
