Doctor Who fans stunned by game-changing 13 and Yaz moment in new story

Yasmin Khan and the Thirteenth Doctor shared a connection filled with strong chemistry, emotional confessions, and tender moments. However, their developing romance in Doctor Who wasn’t easy, and ultimately ended with a touch of sadness.

After a season of building tension in season 13 (Doctor Who: Flux), the characters finally revealed their romantic feelings in the 2022 specials, ‘Eve of the Daleks’ and ‘Legend of the Sea Devils.’ Despite confessing their feelings, they never shared an actual kiss on screen.

Fans who enjoy the Thasmin pairing will be happy to hear that their story in the Doctor Who audio drama, The Violet Hour, has reached a significant turning point that changes everything.

The latest installment of Big Finish’s Thirteenth Doctor Adventures, titled ‘The Violet Hour,’ sends the Doctor and Yaz to 1920s London to solve the mysterious death of a spiritualist. A pivotal scene sees Yaz apparently kiss the Doctor in an attempt to rescue her from a different dimension.

“A surprise?” Yaz was told. “Okay, here’s one coming!” A kiss is heard, and a male doctor exclaims, “Oh, my!”

“Ugh, my mouth feels weird… Did you hit me?” Thirteen mumbled as she came to, and Yaz replied with a playful, “Something like that.”

Many viewers were unhappy with how the romantic relationship between Yasmin and the Doctor (known as ‘Thasmin’) concluded in the show. The sudden and sad reveal in ‘Legend of the Sea Devils’ felt forced and like an afterthought.

Although the beach scene aimed for a heartfelt, wistful feeling, the potential romance between the Doctor and Yaz didn’t quite deliver. This first attempt at a same-sex relationship for the Doctor felt underdeveloped and didn’t resonate as strongly as hoped.

This is a frequent problem for LGBTQ+ love stories, especially in science fiction and fantasy.

Fans of Doctor Who, known as Whovians, are loving the new audio dramas featuring Jodie Whittaker and Mandip Gill. These stories take place between seasons 12 and 13 of the show, and many listeners feel they provide a more satisfying conclusion for the characters after the disappointing end to their time on television. Big Finish, the company producing the audio dramas, is being praised for giving Jodie and Mandip a better send-off.

Jodie Whittaker, the actress who plays Doctor Who, hinted at a possible return in a previous conversation with TopMob, saying, “You should never rule anything out – we still have stories to tell!”

She went on to joke: “We could be [kissing] in the background!”

Big Finish’s Doctor Who: The Thirteenth Doctor Adventures: The Violet Hour is available now.
