Doctor Who icon Christopher Eccleston confirmed for comic new James McAvoy thriller series as first look revealed

Sky is making a new comic crime thriller series called Meantime, adapted from the novel by Frankie Boyle.

A six-part series based on the novel is currently in production, helmed by directors Boyle and Neil Webster. Jon S Baird, known for his work on ‘Tetris’, is directing. James McAvoy, famous for ‘His Dark Materials’, will star, and a first look at him on set has been released.

James McAvoy will be joined by a stellar cast including Christopher Eccleston, known for Doctor Who, as well as Jamie Michie (Hijack), Shauna MacDonald (Summerwater), Josette Simon (The Forsytes), Janine Harouni (The Batman), Mark Bonnar (Line of Duty), Shirley Henderson (Dept. Q), Benedict Wong (3 Body Problem), and Emun Elliott (The Gold).

The cast also includes Laurie Brett, known from EastEnders, Martin Quinn of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Jordan Young from Vigil, Lois Chimimba of Coldwater, Michael Moreland and Hanna Stanbridge from River City, Joy McAvoy of Two Doors Down, Greg Hemphill from Dinosaur, Robin Laing of Outlander, Kate Donnelly from Karen Pirie, and George Robinson who appears in The War Between the Land and the Sea.

I’m really intrigued by this new show, Meantime, coming to Sky in 2027! From what I’ve heard, it centers around Felix McAveety, played by James McAvoy, who’s battling addiction. His life gets turned upside down when his best friend is found murdered, and unfortunately, he quickly becomes the prime suspect in the police investigation. It sounds like a really gripping story!

Lost in a haze of alcohol and suspicion, Felix tries to prove his innocence. He teams up with Simon, a retired detective who now writes crime novels, and Michie, a wildly unpredictable friend, to help him.

Their quest for the truth turns into a thrilling and often hilarious chase across the less savory side of modern Scotland, and things quickly get out of hand.
