Both Doctor Who and Star Trek are hugely popular science fiction series known for their vast, imaginative universes. It’s no surprise fans have long hoped for a crossover event! Interestingly, the current showrunner of Doctor Who also wants to make it happen, and they’ve already secured one actor from Star Trek: The Next Generation to participate.
Russell T. Davies, the showrunner of Doctor Who, recently shared a video with Whoopi Goldberg, star of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Davies explained he’d been hoping to meet Goldberg, a dedicated Doctor Who fan, for ten years. She helped them get tickets to see The View, and in a playful video, the two expressed their desire for a crossover between Doctor Who and Star Trek. While there are no official plans for this yet, both are enthusiastic about the idea if it ever becomes a reality.
In the video, Davies jokingly suggests a crossover between Doctor Who and Star Trek. Goldberg enthusiastically agrees, saying they need to make it happen and also bring Doctor Who to American audiences. Davies calls the idea ‘controversial’ with a laugh, and Goldberg responds with a playful ‘Share the love!’
Davies cautioned everyone not to jump to conclusions, then Goldberg explained that ‘Who’ is a non-human, all-powerful being capable of appearing anywhere, and is needed now. Davies added that Star Trek will always endure, safeguarding humanity. You can watch the complete video above.
A Doctor Who Star Trek Crossover Has Actually Already Happened

Although Doctor Who and Star Trek haven’t met in a TV episode yet, they actually teamed up in a comic book series. Published by IDW in 2012, Star Trek: The Next Generation/Doctor Who: Assimilation² brought together the eleventh Doctor (played by Matt Smith) and the crew of Star Trek: The Next Generation. The story begins with the Doctor and his companions landing the TARDIS inside the Enterprise’s holodeck.
What makes this team-up special is that it connects to previous stories from both the Doctor Who and Star Trek universes. When the Doctor enters this new world, he unexpectedly gains the memories of a past version of himself – specifically, the fourth Doctor – who once had an adventure with Captain Kirk and the original Star Trek crew.
It’s fortunate that the Doctor and Captain Picard have joined forces, because the Borg and Cybermen are now working together! This alliance unexpectedly falls apart, leading to a twist where Picard, the Doctor, and their team end up helping the Borg. After some time travel adventures, they finally manage to stop the Cybermen’s scheme.
Whether or not we’ll see these two shows team up on television remains to be seen, but given how popular they both are, it’s definitely a possibility.
