Doctor Who star Anita Dobson had hesitations about starring in zombie series

As an ardent admirer of the captivating world of television and cinema, I find myself thoroughly intrigued by the journey of Anita Dobson, a veritable gem of British acting. Her latest role in the upcoming series, Generation Z, is nothing short of remarkable, especially considering the unconventional twist it presents – playing a zombie!

A surprising new series titled “Generation Z” is set to air on Channel 4, and it’s shaping up to be anything but predictable!

In the imaginary town of Dambury, when a military transport vehicle flips over near a retirement home, a hazardous substance spills, causing the inhabitants to transform into the undead, triggering a full-blown zombie outbreak!

As a devoted film enthusiast, I’m eagerly anticipating the six-episode series commencing this coming Sunday, 27th October. This captivating production boasts acting legends like Sue Johnston, Robert Lindsay, and Anita Dobson portraying characters named Cecily, Morgan, and Janine – some of the retirees embarking on an intriguing quest in search of… let’s just say, unexpected discoveries!

Dobson, known to many from Doctor Who and EastEnders, initially had some doubts about assuming the role of a zombie. However, he eventually changed his mind.

During an interview with Channel 4, Dobson shared that he received a message from his agent indicating there was something intriguing waiting in their email. Upon reading it, he hesitated, thinking to himself, “I’m unsure if this is a good idea.

After exchanging some thoughts, I got in touch with Ben Wheatley. He turned out to be incredibly kind, humble, and modest, making it an absolute pleasure to collaborate with him. You wouldn’t believe the brilliant ideas just flow from his mind!

She made up her mind to try out for the role after talking to Wheatley and hearing everyone else praise him so much!

Dobson went on to say, “I figured, since I’ve never tried this before, perhaps I might discover something new about myself while doing it – and that turned out to be true.

“You may be older, but there are still good parts out there. You’ve just got to be open to them.”

In the series, Dobson’s character, Janine, is bitten at an early point, yet she does not transform into a zombie right away.

Dobson clarified that it’s a gradual transformation, “It’s taking time,” he said. “She feels overwhelmed by her granddaughter, unsure of how to handle her emotions, and yet, bit by bit, she’s changing.

Instead of saying “While Janine becomes ‘disgustingly horrible’ and shows an ‘desperate need to eat anything that gets in her way'”, we could rephrase it as “Janine develops a repugnant demeanor and feels an urgent compulsion to consume whatever crosses her path, but she continues to harbor love for her granddaughter Kelly.

“There were lots of nuances in the script.”
