Doctor Who star hints Kate Lethbridge-Stewart might not survive The War Between the Land and the Sea

Fans of Doctor Who might want to reconsider skipping the new spinoff, ‘The War Between the Land and the Sea,’ after a recent hint from a well-loved actor from the show.

With the Doctor unavailable, UNIT’s leader, Kate Lethbridge-Stewart (played by Jemma Redgrave), takes charge to stop a looming attack by the Sea Devils in this five-part adventure.

Similar to the movie Independence Day, The War Between the Land and the Sea tells the story of a rising conflict between humans and creatures from the ocean. These creatures are furious about the damage to their home caused by pollution and climate change.

Okay, so things are really heating up, and to try and prevent a full-blown international crisis, Lethbridge-Stewart and her UNIT team are attempting the impossible: talking some sense into a group of classic villains. A key part of this delicate mission falls to Barclay Pierre-DuPont, played brilliantly by Russell Tovey. He’s a bit of an underdog, a lower-ranking operative, and frankly, an unlikely diplomat, but he’s really stepping up to the plate!

The actor, known for playing the Doctor, shared that they’ve had an incredible experience with the role, evolving with it through various seasons of Doctor Who and this latest series as well.

Each time I’m asked to work on the show, it feels like a wonderful opportunity, and I hope it continues for a long time. Writer Pete McTighe explained that the character of Kate Lethbridge-Stewart will undergo a surprising transformation throughout the series, especially for longtime Doctor Who fans who are familiar with her history. The character was originally played by Beverley Cressman in 1995, and Jemma Redgrave later took on the role, first appearing in the 2012 episode “The Power of Three.”

Joining her will be her colleagues from UNIT: Colonel Christofer Ibrahim, played by Alexander Devrient, and Scientific Advisor Shirley Anne Bingham, played by Ruth Madeley. Colin McFarlane returns as General Austin Pierce, a role he previously played in Torchwood: Children of Earth.

It’s hard to imagine how the Doctor and their companions would manage without the brilliant leadership of UNIT, especially considering her clever strategy against the Zygons. We’re really hoping she survives the events in the new miniseries!
