Doctor Who star Matt Lucas has given Russell T Davies an idea for Nardole’s return

Actor Matt Lucas, known for his role as Nardole on Doctor Who, has expressed interest in bringing his character back. He shared that he’s proposed a story concept to the showrunner, Russell T Davies, for potential use.

This well-known actor from Little Britain is recognized for portraying the character Nardole, initially an assistant to River Song (played by Alex Kingston), and later a traveling companion of the Twelfth Doctor (played by Peter Capaldi) in the series.

In The Doctor Falls, we last found Nardole stranded on a colony ship overrun by Mondasian Cybermen. He chose to bravely safeguard the human inhabitants for an indefinite period (however, a later book version of Twice Upon a Time painted a more optimistic picture of his life on the ship, suggesting he lived to be 728 and had a fulfilling existence with six wives).

In his latest interview on Matt Lucas and David Walliams’s podcast Making a Scene, Davies hinted that Nardole will not reappear. He warned Lucas saying, “Unfortunately, it seems you’re in trouble. I have concerns about leaving Nardole behind because the Cybermen are approaching.

Yet, Lucas remarked, “It’s within your grasp. I may not hand it over directly, but haven’t I planted a thought about Nardole in your mind?

Indeed, that’s a great thought!” Davies responded, as Lucas shared, “It’s quite intriguing. I’d rather not disclose it yet, just in case it materializes someday.

Given Nardole’s current situation, it seems unlikely that he will reappear in the series anytime soon; however, since anything is possible in the world of this show, it’s conceivable that actor Matt Lucas could resurface as another character down the line.

In the 2015 holiday special, I made my debut, later becoming a regular traveler alongside Bill Potts, played by Pearl Mackie, during season 10.

Previously, Walliams was featured in an episode of Doctor Who titled “The God Complex,” where he played the character Gibbis during season 6.

Doctor Who is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
