Dodgers’ Alex Vesia Away for “Deeply Personal” Matter With Wife Kayla

The Los Angeles Dodgers are missing a teammate.

Just before their scheduled 2025 World Series game against the Toronto Blue Jays, the MLB team announced that pitcher Alex Vesia will be unavailable. He is currently with his wife, Kayla, who is pregnant, to attend to a personal family matter.

The Dodgers announced on October 23rd that Alex Vesia is currently away from the team to support his wife, Kayla, as they deal with a private family issue. The team is sending their support to the Vesia family and will share more information when available.

We don’t know why Alex is absent, and he and his wife, who announced they were expecting a baby in April, haven’t shared any information themselves.

With one of their key pitchers currently unavailable, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts explained how the team is adjusting their plans. They need to finalize and submit their World Series roster by 10 a.m. ET on game day, according to ESPN.

As a lifestyle expert, I’m all about understanding systems and making them work for you, and that’s exactly what’s happening right now. We’re really focused on figuring out how everything works – the guidelines, the procedures – so we can effectively manage our team. Specifically, we’re working to find the right person to fill an open spot and make sure our team is complete.

Looking ahead, manager Dave Roberts said the team—which includes pitchers Shohei Ohtani, Clayton Kershaw, and Yoshinobu Yamamoto—is taking things one day at a time and isn’t setting any specific goals right now.

Before announcing his departure, Alex joined in celebrating the Dodgers’ recent win against the Milwaukee Brewers, which earned them a place in the World Series.

On October 18th, Alex posted on Instagram a photo of himself with Kayla’s baby bump while on the field, and another of him celebrating a win with champagne in the locker room. He captioned the post with a hopeful message: “Up Next… World Series.”
