The Los Angeles Dodgers are giving Alex Vesia his space.
After the baseball team announced the pitcher was taking time away to deal with a private family issue involving his pregnant wife, Kayla Vesia, they explained why he won’t be on the 2025 World Series roster. This means he probably won’t be able to play in the championship series.
Dodgers executive Andrew Friedman explained to reporters on October 24th that they wanted to avoid any possibility of creating undue pressure. He emphasized that the situation was far more important than the game itself, and they simply wanted to offer their full support in any way they could.
Although the Dodgers haven’t explained why he’s away, and Alex and Kayla recently announced they are expecting a baby, manager Dave Roberts said the team is thinking of the pitcher and his family.
We’re all thinking of him and miss him very much,” he said to reporters. “He’s still a big part of everything we do.”
Dave observed that the team was even more determined heading into the World Series against the Toronto Blue Jays, saying, “It just gives them extra motivation.”
The manager acknowledged they’ll definitely miss Alex on the field, but he’s confident in his other pitchers, including stars like Shohei Ohtani, Clayton Kershaw, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and Max Scherzer.

We have plenty of good choices moving forward,” Roberts said. “I’m not sure what challenges we’ll face, but I have confidence in every player on the team, and someone will need to rise to the occasion.”
As the 2025 World Series moves to its third game on October 27th, the series is currently tied, with each team having won one game. The Dodgers earned their place in the championship by defeating the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Championship Series, a victory Alex celebrated just before the World Series began.
On October 18th, Alex posted on Instagram a photo of himself with Kayla, gently holding her baby bump on the field, alongside a picture of the team celebrating with a champagne shower in the locker room. His caption simply read, “Up Next… World Series.”
Read on for a look back at many of Alex and Kayla’s sweetest moments.

Kayla and Alex Vesia publicly confirmed their relationship on Instagram in April 2019. Kayla playfully announced it with a post saying, “GAME OVER (literally & metaphorically).”

When Alex started playing for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2021, Kayla and his parents were his most enthusiastic supporters, cheering him on from the stands.

A year before he popped the question, Alex celebrated a huge milestone for the couple.
He celebrated three years with his partner in an April 2022 post, writing, “These past three years have flown by! I love sharing life with you – you make me incredibly happy. I love you so much!”

Oh my gosh, they were so cute over the holidays last year! They were already talking about the wedding, and just seemed completely overjoyed. Alex even posted the sweetest message – it said, “Merry Christmas from the future Vesias!!” – I seriously melted! It was like they were already husband and wife in their hearts, just counting down the days. I’ve saved that post, of course. It’s pure magic!

As a lifestyle expert, I’m always thrilled to hear about couples celebrating their love! I was so happy to learn that after getting married in January 2024, this sweet couple jetted off to Mexico for their first getaway as husband and wife. What a perfect way to start their life together!

Things are going well for the couple, who marked their first wedding anniversary with a hot air balloon ride in January 2025.

Kayla and Alex shared a sweet moment from their date night, showcasing Kayla’s baby bump. Alex celebrated the evening on Instagram, writing that spending time with his wife while she’s pregnant made for a wonderful night.

Once the Dodgers secured their place in the 2025 World Series against the Toronto Blue Jays, Kayla shared a celebratory message for her partner, posting, “& NOW… ONTO THE WORLD SERIES.”
