Dodgers’ Emmet Sheehan Speaks Out on Alex Vesia’s World Series Absence

The Los Angeles Dodgers are still supporting Alex Vesia even though he won’t be playing in the 2025 World Series.

It was really tough to see our reliever leave right before the championship series, especially after his wife, Kayla Vesia, shared they’re expecting their first child back in April. We all know family comes first, and it was clear he needed to be there for them. The whole team absolutely supports him as he deals with this deeply personal family matter, and we were all thinking of him as we played against the Blue Jays.

Dodgers pitcher Emmet Sheehan told The New York Times and The Athletic after game three on October 27th that the team was deeply affected by everything Ves was going through. He said they were all thinking about him throughout the night.

The team showed their support for Alex by silently wearing Dodgers caps with his number 51 on them.

Pitcher Clayton Kershaw explained to reporters after the game that the team really values Ves, and he was a key member of the bullpen. They wanted to do something special to recognize his contributions.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are still supporting Alex Vesia even though he can’t be with them at the 2025 World Series.

The relief pitcher, whose wife Kayla Vesia announced in April that they are expecting a baby, left the team right before the championship series to deal with a private family issue. His teammates voiced their support for him and Kayla, and spoke about how his absence affected them during their games against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Dodgers pitcher Emmet Sheehan said things have been tough for the team lately because of everything Ves is going through. Speaking to The New York Times and The Athletic after their 18-inning win on October 27th, Sheehan shared that the team was thinking about Ves all night.

The team showed their support for Alex by wearing Dodgers caps with his number, 51, stitched on them, a silent gesture of solidarity.

Clayton Kershaw explained to reporters after the game that the team really values Ves, and he was a key member of the bullpen. They wanted to do something special to recognize his contributions.

Justin Wrobleski emphasized how important Ves is to the team, saying Ves has been a key part of everything they’ve accomplished, according to The Athletic. Jack Dreyer agreed with this assessment.

Since he couldn’t be with us, we wanted to demonstrate our support for him and Kayla during this difficult time,” explained the young relief pitcher, who also practices catching with Alex. “It was a small way to let him know we care and are thinking of him.”

He explained that while they really needed him on the team, family comes first. They’re committed to supporting him in any way they can.

According to The Atlantic, Alex will likely miss the remainder of the World Series, which continues on October 29th with game five.

Dodgers executive Andrew Friedman explained to reporters on October 24th that they wanted to avoid any possibility of creating pressure. He emphasized that the situation was far more important than baseball, and they simply wanted to offer their full support in any way they could.

Since Alex isn’t here, we wanted to show our support for him and Kayla during this difficult time,” explained the new relief pitcher, who often practices with Alex. “It’s a small way for us to let him know we care and are thinking of him.”

He explained that while they really needed his help, their priority was supporting him as family, and they would do everything they could to assist him.

Alex hasn’t made any public statements since the organization announced his leave on October 23rd. He’s also been excluded from the team’s lineup for the World Series, which will continue on October 29th with game five.

As a lifestyle expert, I always say it’s about prioritizing well-being, and that’s exactly what the Dodgers did in their recent roster decision. Andrew Friedman shared with reporters that they intentionally left a player off the roster to avoid any unnecessary pressure. It really comes down to recognizing that life is so much bigger than any game, and they wanted to fully support him as a person. It was about doing what little they could to offer complete support, and that’s a beautiful thing to see.
