Dog the Bounty Hunter’s Stepson on Psychiatric Hold After Son’s Death

Gregory Zecca is struggling to cope with a traumatic experience.

Following an unfortunate incident where he accidentally fired a gun and lost his 13-year-old son named Anthony, Duane “Dog” Chapman’s stepson has been admitted to a psychiatric facility due to the profound grief over the loss of his child. This information was shared by a family representative with TMZ on July 21.

Zecca, son of Francie Frane, wife of the famous bounty hunter star, was recently put under a 5150 psychiatric hold. This means that due to a mental health issue, he was involuntarily detained for 72 hours because he may have been a danger to himself, others, or was severely disabled.

The representative made it clear to TMZ that Zecca’s detention stems from his sorrow about the incident, not because he harbors feelings of guilt for any crime connected to the shooting.

On July 19, Zecca tragically killed his son in their apartment located in Naples, Florida. Subsequently, on July 21, the Collier County Sheriff’s Office announced that they were delving into a “death investigation” related to the shooting, referring to it as an “isolated incident.

In my professional capacity as a lifestyle expert, I’m diligently diving deep into every aspect of this unfortunate event. This investigation involves gathering testimonies from eyewitnesses present at the scene, conducting thorough forensic examinations, issuing subpoenas, and executing search warrants. We are leaving no stone unturned in our quest for the truth.

Meanwhile, although Zecca hasn’t made any public comments about the incident, his mother and stepfather have since shared their feelings regarding the unfortunate tragedy that befell the family.

The family is deeply mourning an unbearable, unfortunate accident, as stated by representatives to TMZ on July 19. They humbly request ongoing prayers during this difficult time, as they sorrowfully miss their cherished grandson, Anthony.

Viewers recognize Duane Chapman, also known as Dog the Bounty Hunter, from his various television shows such as “Dog the Bounty Hunter”, “Dog & Beth: On the Hunt” featuring his late wife Beth Chapman, and “Dog’s Most Wanted”. In reality, however, his personal life mirrors a soap opera. He has been married five times to women including La Fonda Sue Honeycutt, Ann Tegnell, Lyssa Rae Brittain, Beth, and Francie Frane, and is the father of 13 children.

Jon, who is the eldest among Dog’s offspring, wasn’t always known to him as his other son. However, an unexpected turn of events unfolded in June 2023 when Dog learned about Jon, whom he had just recently met. The revelation was a significant consolation on a day that previously held deep sorrow, marking the anniversary of Beth’s passing. Now, instead of mourning, this day carries a new significance. This is Jon, Dog’s son, and his wife Jodi.

It’s also important to note that Dog, besides Jon, had minimal interaction with another son named Christopher Hecht. As reported by People, Christopher was born to Dog and his ex-girlfriend Debbie White in 1972 while Dog was imprisoned for murder (he has maintained his innocence). Christopher was later given up for adoption. Over time, Christopher has encountered legal issues; for example, he was sentenced to three years in prison in 2021 due to a 2020 menacing arrest, as reported by The Sun.

Duane Jr., born in 1973 and sharing the same name as his father, is Dog’s son from his first marriage to La Fonda. Much like his dad, he followed a career path as a bounty hunter and made appearances on his father’s shows. However, these days, he prefers to keep his personal life private, away from the screen.

Leland, who was born during Dog’s marriage to La Fonda in 1976, followed in his father’s footsteps and is also a bounty hunter. He is not only known for his work as a bounty hunter but also as a loving dad to sons Dakota and Cobie with his first wife Maui Chapman, and daughter Leiah with Lynette Yi. As of now, he is married to Jamie Chapman.

Following his divorce from La Fonda, Dog tied the knot with Ann Tegnell. As reported by People magazine, their union resulted in three sons – Zebediah, Wesley, and James – born in 1980, 1980, and 1982 respectively.

Wesley operates Chapman Springs Ranch in Idaho and serves as COO of Loft Thirty One interior design studio. He’s also the creator of The Human Gathering event. His wife is Jodie Chapman. Regarding his older brother Zebediah, it was reported he passed away as an infant. James prefers to keep his personal life confidential.

In his third marriage to Lyssa Rae, Dog became a father to Barbara, Tucker, and Lyssa. However, tragedy struck when Barbara was involved in a fatal car accident in Fairbanks, Alaska, on the eve of Dog and Beth’s wedding in 2006, as reported by Hawaii News Now. She was just 23 years old. In a 2023 Instagram post, her sister Lyssa described Barbara as “the original Goth Barbie, rainbow, sailor moon loving, Broncos fanatic, gender-blending individual.” She wasn’t confined to one identity; she embodied many at once. Animals adored her, she reciprocated their love, and above all, she cherished life. She spoke her mind, slept as long as she desired, swore like a sailor, had an abundance of coolness that I can barely grasp with my pinky finger. I miss you, my sister.

After leaving his stint on ‘Dog the Bounty Hunter’, Tucker (born 1983) has chosen to lead a more secluded existence. Yet, he’s been candid about the hurdles he’s encountered. In an Instagram post from May 2025, he expressed: “I am a human test subject for recovery – from addiction, from the criminal justice system, from poor decisions leading to unfeeling rehabs, cynical probation officers, and countless times over.” He aspires that his path can inspire others. Furthermore, he stated: “If you want something done properly, sometimes you must do it yourself. Since I’ve been through the struggles, I know the traps of life. I am striving towards my aspirations to assist those trapped in the endless cycle of addiction, crime, and punishment.

Ever since I first laid eyes on her, born in the magical year of 1987, I’ve been utterly captivated by none other than Lyssa – a name as radiant as the woman herself, bestowed upon her by my beloved mom, Lyssa.

In my teenage years, this captivating reality star brought a new life into the world, a beautiful daughter named Abbie. Fast forward to 2009, and I found myself standing at the altar with Brahman Galanti, welcoming another precious addition to our family – little Madalynn. Unfortunately, our union didn’t last long, as fate had other plans, and we parted ways two years later.

But the story doesn’t end there! In 2022, under the warm embrace of the Hawaiian sun, I found love anew with Leiana Evensen, and together, we continue to write our own beautiful chapter in life.

In 2006, Dog married Beth. They had three children together: Bonnie Chapman, Garry Chapman, and Cecily Chapman. Unfortunately, in 2017, Beth was diagnosed with stage 2 throat cancer. After a brief remission, her cancer returned the following year, and she passed away in 2019 at the age of 51.

Similar to her siblings, Bonnie (born in 1998) made an appearance on “Dog the Bounty Hunter”. However, these days she’s discussing less about bounty hunting and more about her fitness journey with followers. In a 2024 interview exclusively with TopMob, she confided: “Ever since I was approximately 18 years old, I have been trying to shed excess weight. It was disheartening to keep trying, to consistently put in the effort. Over the years, I’ve followed the Mediterranean diet, the Paleo diet, and various other diets, but what I needed was a method that would deliver tangible results.

Instead, She decided to try injectable treatments for managing her weight, successfully reaching her target of 130 pounds (having dropped from her previous high of 196), with the help of Tirezepatide.

To be honest, there were moments when I shed a few tears,” the influencer admitted, expressing her sentiment as, “I was truly taken aback, realizing this is exactly what I’ve dreamt of all these years.”

However, Bonnie and Dog have experienced their fair share of highs and lows in their relationship. For instance, when Bonnie and her sister Cecily disclosed to TMZ in 2021 that they weren’t invited to his wedding with Francie.

After Dog married Beth, he legally became the father of her daughter Cecily (born in 1993), who was from a previous relationship. And Cecily admired her father so deeply that she chose to follow his profession and became a bail agent herself.

On June 2025, Dog posted on Instagram wishing Cecily a happy birthday: “Happy Birthday, Cecily! I’m incredibly proud of the remarkable woman you have become, and I feel truly blessed that God selected me to be your father!

Apart from starring on “Dog the Bounty Hunter,” Garry (born in 2001) also offers a peek into his life on social media platforms. He regularly posts about his religious beliefs, family life with Nicole Chapman, physical fitness endeavors, and his professional journey in law enforcement.

In 2020, Francie shared with Entertainment Tonight how she and Dog met during difficult times when they were both dealing with loss. Six months prior, Beth had passed away, leaving Francie heartbroken. They found solace in each other’s company, helping one another to cope during those challenging moments. As Francie put it, “We understood the pain we were feeling and supported each other through the tough days.”

Their first date took place at church, and they soon developed a strong bond. In May 2020, Dog proposed, and they got married the following year. For Dog, their relationship was not only personal but also professional, as he explained in an interview with Dr. Oz in 2020, “She’s a hunter… She just fit right in.” Francie and her two sons have been avid bow hunters, and this natural affinity made her the perfect partner for Dog.
