DOGS memecoin releases roadmap for first half of 2025

Dogs, a cryptocurrency that operates on The Open Network (TON), has unveiled its blueprint for the first six months of 2025. This roadmap includes the development of games with a Dogs theme, fostering community involvement through local charitable initiatives, and broadening the practical applications of using the Dogs token for payments.

As per the outlined plan, it is anticipated that users can utilize their DOGS tokens – named after a sketch of Telegram’s creator Pavel Durov’s pet – for both online and offline transactions like purchasing gift cards or arranging travel plans, by the end of this year.

People can set up local branches for non-profit organizations, which will help with charitable activities made possible by the community’s $4.5 million charitable fund derived from the 6 billion unused DOGS tokens.

Recently, members of the DOGS community shared with CryptoMoon that one of their partnerships involves a charitable organization called Best Friends Animal Society. This group provides shelter for homeless animals across the United States.

In this example of community outreach, we see a practical application for memecoins, often scrutinized by experts due to their perceived lack of practical use, monetary worth, or tangible real-world function.

DOGS hits records, causing TON to crash

In September, it was revealed by the TON community that the DOGS token was being held by approximately 4.5 million distinct individuals, setting a record as the meme token with the highest number of unique holders to date.

During that period, it was observed within the TON community that “over 53 million individuals interacted with the DOGS Mini App, and approximately 42.2 million of them qualified for the token distribution,” marking it as the biggest meme token creation event historically, at the time in question.

Twice, the abrupt halt in block production on the TON network was triggered by the rapid surge in popularity for the mini app on Telegram, known as the DOGS app, and an influx of users eager to acquire DOGS tokens.

August 28, 2024 marked the first instance of an outage on the TON network that was triggered by Dogs-related issues. During this time, the network halted block production for several hours due to excessive congestion caused by users claiming DOGS tokens during the airdrop, which was unusually high.

On August 29, I experienced a second interruption in my work, which persisted for roughly six hours. Normal block production was restored thereafter.

During a span of 36 hours, TON encountered a total downtime of 12 hours because an exceptionally large number of users were demanding the memecoin.
