Dolly Parton Misses Event Amid Kidney Stone Recovery

Dolly Parton is working nine to five to get over her latest ailment.

Dolly Parton, the singer of “Jolene,” recently explained why she couldn’t attend the announcement of Dollywood’s new ride, Night Flight Expedition, which is scheduled to open in 2026. She shared that she’s been dealing with a health issue.

Dolly greeted fans at Dollywood in a video played during a special event. She explained, ‘I know I’m not there with you in person, and you’re probably wondering why. Well, I had a bit of a difficulty!’

Indeed, the 79-year-old noted she had a kidney stone that was causing her “a lot of problems.”

Dolly explained that she’d gotten an infection, and her doctor advised her to stay put and recover for a few days. “You really shouldn’t travel right now,” the doctor had said.

Dolly lamented that her doctor advised against her visit to her theme park.

“I was looking so forward to it,” she added. “But I’m there with you in spirit.”

Dolly isn’t the only performer recently forced to cancel plans due to health issues. Billy Joel recently announced he’s canceling all his concerts scheduled for 2025 and 2026 after being diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus, a condition where fluid builds up in the brain.

Billy is grateful for the great medical care he’s getting and is focused on getting better, according to his representatives. He appreciates the support from his fans and hopes to perform again soon.

And the 76-year-old recently opened up on battling the condition.

He described his balance as unsteady, comparing it to being on a boat. Despite this, he said he feels okay, and although doctors are calling it a brain disorder, he doesn’t feel as bad as that sounds.

While the internet isn’t always a kind place, Amy Schumer is happy that, in this case, it helped her get answers.

“The internet really came for me after doing a bunch of press, and I was like, ‘OK everybody, relax,'” Amy recalled of her “puffier” face on a January 2025 episode of Call Her Daddy. “But then doctors were chiming in in the comments and they were like, ‘No no, we think something’s really up. Your face looks so crazy that we think something’s up. And I’m like, ‘Wait, I’m getting trolled by doctors?’”

After these doctors said they thought she had Cushing syndrome and that it may be caused by spiking coritsol levels or steroid injections, the Life & Beth creator thought, “Wait, I have been getting steroid injections in my scars.”

“I had a breast reduction, a C-section, whatever, and so I was getting these steroid injections,” Amy said. “So it gave me this thing called Cushing syndrome, which I wouldn’t have known if the internet hadn’t come for me so hard.”

Toda, Amy is just relieved she’s OK. As she shared in a February 2024 News Not Noise newsletter, “Finding out I have the kind of Cushing that will just work itself out and I’m healthy was the greatest news imaginable.”

In March 2022, Hailey Bieber experienced a frightening health scare while having breakfast with her husband, Justin. She suddenly developed stroke-like symptoms, initially unable to respond when Justin asked if she was alright. She then realized she couldn’t speak and the right side of her face began to droop.

Although her symptoms eventually subsided, Hailey went to the hospital where tests revealed she’d had a small blood clot in her brain, which doctors identified as a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack).

Further testing at UCLA discovered Hailey had a hole in her heart called a patent foramen ovale (PFO). Doctors determined the blood clot had traveled to her brain through this hole, causing the TIA.

Hailey underwent a successful procedure to close the PFO and is now recovering well.

As if 2022 wasn’t challenging enough, Justin also faced a health crisis around the same time as I did. He was diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, which temporarily paralyzed half of his face. It was really scary to watch, and he bravely shared with fans in a video how it affected him – he couldn’t blink, smile, or even move his nostril on one side. He even mentioned it became difficult to eat. Thankfully, after some time, the paralysis resolved. He’s made a full recovery, and I’m so incredibly grateful he’s doing well. It was a random and frightening experience, but he’s totally okay now, and that’s all that matters.

Jamie Foxx initially kept the details of his health crisis private, but he later shared what happened. He explained that while in Atlanta in April 2023, he experienced a severe headache and asked for aspirin. Before he could take it, he lost consciousness and doesn’t remember the next twenty days.

He initially saw a doctor who gave him a cortisone shot and sent him home. However, his sister, Deidra Dixon, was worried and took him to the hospital, where doctors discovered he had a brain bleed that caused a stroke.

After surgery, twenty days later, on May 4th, Jamie woke up in a wheelchair unable to walk. He then traveled to Chicago for rehabilitation and therapy. He expressed his gratitude for all the prayers he received, saying he needed every single one.

She shared on the show *Fit for TV: The Reality of The Biggest Loser* that her memory of the event was fragmented. Emilia Clarke, known for her role in *Game of Thrones*, revealed a harrowing health battle in a 2019 essay for *The New Yorker*. While filming the series, she experienced a sudden and severe headache while at the gym. She described collapsing and being violently ill, realizing something was seriously wrong with her brain.

A hospital scan quickly revealed a subarachnoid hemorrhage – a life-threatening stroke caused by bleeding around the brain. She had suffered an aneurysm, a rupture in an artery. Immediate surgery was performed to repair it, but the pain was excruciating. During recovery, she experienced aphasia, leaving her unable to speak coherently.

Though the aphasia eventually passed and she was discharged after a month, a 2013 scan revealed the aneurysm had doubled in size, requiring a second surgery. This procedure initially failed, causing a major bleed and putting her life at risk. Doctors had to perform a more invasive surgery, accessing her brain directly through her skull.

Fortunately, Emilia is now fully recovered and says she is “at a hundred per cent.”

Because of her background in holistic medicine and herbalism, Shailene sought help from both traditional doctors and alternative healers, hoping to find relief and understand what was happening. This search for answers took ten years.

The physical discomfort led to anxiety around food and eventually, issues with body image and a sense of self. She described a confusing and challenging time as she tried to feel comfortable in her own body.
