Dolly Parton’s Sister Freida Asks for Prayers for Singer’s Health

Freida Parton is looking for support.

Following Dolly Parton’s recent postponement of six shows from her Las Vegas residency, her sister asked for prayers and shared news about the country singer’s health.

On October 7th, Freida shared on Facebook that she spent the entire night praying for her sister, Dolly, who hasn’t been feeling well. Freida expressed her strong belief in prayer and asked Dolly’s supporters to join her in praying for her recovery.

She’s a strong and loved woman, and I truly believe she’ll recover thanks to everyone’s prayers. I’m sending her my best wishes, Dolly. We all love you very much!

Dolly announced on September 28th that she’s delaying her Las Vegas residency at the Colosseum Theater at Caesars Palace, originally scheduled for December 4th to 13th, until September 2026 because of health issues.

The 79-year-old shared on Instagram that she needs to have a few medical procedures. She joked with her doctors that it must be time for a major overhaul – like a 100,000-mile check-up for a car – though this wasn’t a visit to her plastic surgeon, as usual.

I’m truly sorry, but with everything going on, I won’t be able to prepare the show I want to deliver – the one you deserve. I know you spend your hard-earned money to see my performances, and I want to make sure I’m giving you my absolute best.

Dolly Parton said she can work on her projects from home in Nashville, but she needs some time to prepare for performing again.

Dolly recently shared that she’s taking a break to rest and recharge, following a challenging time after the loss of her husband of 58 years, Carl Dean, in March.

She playfully reassured everyone she wasn’t leaving work, saying she hadn’t received any sign from God to stop. However, she felt a nudge to take things slower so she could prepare for exciting future opportunities with them.

While Dolly gets better, here’s a look at other celebrities who have opened up about their health journeys.

Brie Bella, known from *Total Bellas*, shared that one of her breast implants moved after being hit in the chest during a wrestling match with Piper Niven in July 2025.

She reassured her sister, Bella Garcia, that they would eventually get the issue resolved. She explained to the doctor that as soon as she finished her current commitments – implying after her divorce was finalized – she’d return to address the problem and ensure everything looked its best, because she planned to use it again and it needed to be presentable.

Lupita Nyong’o received a diagnosis of uterine fibroids—non-cancerous growths in or around the uterus—in 2014, the same year she won an Academy Award for her role in *12 Years a Slave*.

She didn’t reveal her diagnosis until 2025, sharing on Instagram that she had been privately struggling with it for over ten years.

She explained that growing up, she was taught to expect periods to be painful, and to accept that pain as a normal part of being female. This often leaves people feeling like they’re dealing with a difficult experience on their own, when it actually affects many women.

In July 2025, the actress from *Daisy Jones & The Six* revealed she’d been hospitalized for a hernia. This happened because she’d been wearing pants that were too tight, causing a gap to form in her abdominal muscles.

Someone messaged Suki on X (formerly Twitter), saying, ‘You haven’t tweeted in a while!’ Suki replied with a surprising reason: she’d been hiding a hernia caused by wearing very tight pants six months ago and was afraid to mention it.

The former star of *Beverly Hills, 90210* shared in April 2025 that he was recovering from surgery to repair a nearly ruptured appendix.

Brian shared in an Instagram video that he recently experienced stomach pain which led him to the emergency room. He explained that his appendix had a hole in it – it hadn’t fully burst, but was very close to doing so.

He added, “I’m on the road to recovery. It’s not an easy process. This is my first major surgery.”

Savannah received immediate medical attention on the field and was taken to a nearby hospital for more tests, according to a statement from the National Women’s Soccer League posted on X. She is currently in stable condition and is alert.

Adam Devine revealed that injuries from being hit by a cement truck at age 11 continue to cause him problems even now.

“It’s been a really difficult time,” Devine shared on the *In Depth With Graham Bensinger* podcast in 2025. “I’ve been experiencing spasms all over my body, and doctors recently told me I was facing a life-threatening situation—within the last year, actually.”

He acknowledged that pain is temporary, explaining that his body has some minor imperfections and isn’t functioning perfectly.

A former contestant on *The Bachelor* recently revealed he had to crawl to the hospital because of severe back pain. The pain flared up during a road trip with a friend while traveling in an RV.

He described a lingering tingling sensation in his knees and toes as of March 2025, sharing this on his *Trading Secrets* podcast. He explained that just a few weeks or a month prior, he was able to squat 295 pounds, but now he can’t even do a squat or stand on one leg without falling. He compared the feeling to having had a stroke.

But with the help of a back specialist and some steroids, he added, “We’re on the mend.”

In an Instagram post, she explained that she was accidentally shot in the face by someone at a party who fired a weapon unsafely. Thankfully, @thebrendanrooney quickly helped, checked her over, and drove her to the hospital. She was hit five times, and one bullet came dangerously close to her right eye – less than an inch away.

The *Kim Possible* actor explained that a small piece of something got stuck behind their eye. Doctors have advised against removing it with surgery right now, but they will keep monitoring the situation, as their vision is currently normal.

The actress expressed immense gratitude for surviving and shared a heartfelt message about cherishing loved ones. “I’m so thankful for my daughters, husband, family, and friends,” she said. Recounting a near-death experience, she urged everyone to hug their loved ones often, emphasizing how quickly life can change.

Amy Schumer is grateful for the internet, even though it can be harsh, because it ultimately helped her get a diagnosis. After noticing she looked “puffier” and facing criticism online, doctors began commenting on her appearance, suggesting she might have Cushing syndrome – a condition potentially caused by high cortisol levels or steroid injections. This prompted Amy to realize she’d received steroid injections following a breast reduction and C-section. She later learned she had a form of Cushing syndrome that would resolve on its own, which she called “the greatest news imaginable.” Amy shared this update in a February 2024 newsletter, relieved to be healthy.

During a game in December 2024, an AHL player was accidentally cut in the face by another player’s skate and needed 25 stitches to close the wound. After his son made a full recovery, New Jersey Devils General Manager Tom Fitzgerald shared with ESPN how relieved they were, saying, “We feel very lucky, and I wouldn’t want any parent to go through that.”

In March 2022, Hailey Bieber experienced a frightening health scare while having breakfast with her husband, Justin Bieber. She suddenly started having stroke-like symptoms, unable to speak and noticing her face drooping. Although her speech and facial movement eventually returned, she went to the hospital for testing. Doctors discovered she had a small blood clot in her brain, which they identified as a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack). Further investigation at UCLA revealed Hailey had a hole in her heart called a patent foramen ovale (PFO). This hole allowed the blood clot to travel to her brain, causing the TIA. Hailey successfully underwent a procedure to close the PFO and is now doing well.

The same year Hailey faced a health issue, Justin also experienced one. In June 2022, he revealed he had been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, which caused temporary paralysis on one side of his face. This forced him to cancel the remaining dates of his Justice World Tour.

In a video posted to Instagram, Justin explained the condition affected the nerves in his ear and face, preventing him from blinking, smiling, or moving his nostril on the affected side. He also shared that it was becoming increasingly difficult to eat.

Fortunately, the paralysis eventually went away. Hailey shared on *Good Morning America* that Justin was recovering well and feeling much better, adding that while the situation was frightening and unexpected, he was going to be okay and she was grateful he was fine.

Jamie Foxx initially kept the details of his April 2023 health scare private, but he later shared what happened. He described having a severe headache one day while in Atlanta and asking for aspirin. Before he could take it, he lost consciousness and doesn’t remember the next 20 days.

Initially, a doctor gave him a cortisone shot and sent him home. However, his sister, Deidra Dixon, was worried and took him to the hospital, where doctors discovered he had a brain bleed that caused a stroke.

After surgery, Jamie woke up in a wheelchair on May 4th, unable to walk. He then went to Chicago for rehabilitation and therapy. He expressed deep gratitude for the prayers he received, saying he needed every single one.

The reality TV star shared that she temporarily stopped breathing while running a mile during the first challenge on the NBC competition show.

She shared on the show *Fit for TV: The Reality of The Biggest Loser* that her memory of the event was fragmented. She recalled hearing a helicopter, feeling as if she was floating, and then seeing her grandfather. After that, everything went dark, but she then experienced a bright light, leading her to realize she had died that day.

It was terrifying. She explained that her body was actually failing – her organs were shutting down. She hadn’t even known what was happening, and later found out she had rhabdomyolysis. She described it as her body’s way of sending a desperate signal, like it was giving up.

Emilia Clarke, known for her role in *Game of Thrones*, revealed a harrowing health battle in a 2019 essay for *The New Yorker*. While filming the series, she experienced a severe headache while at the gym, which quickly escalated. She described becoming violently ill and realizing something was seriously wrong with her brain.

A hospital scan revealed she had suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage, a life-threatening stroke caused by a ruptured aneurysm. She immediately underwent surgery to repair it, but the pain was excruciating. During her recovery, she temporarily lost her ability to speak, often muttering incoherently.

After a week, her speech returned, and she was discharged from the hospital after a month. However, a 2013 scan revealed the aneurysm had grown, requiring a second surgery. This surgery was unsuccessful, leading to a major bleed and a dire prognosis. Doctors had to perform a more invasive procedure, accessing her brain directly through her skull.

Fortunately, Emilia reports she has now made a full recovery and is at 100%.

As a lifestyle advocate, I’m always inspired by stories of resilience, and Cori Broadus, Snoop Dogg’s daughter, is a perfect example. She recently shared her incredibly difficult experience with a stroke she suffered back in January of this year. Thankfully, her family immediately rallied around her, which meant the world to her during a scary time. It wasn’t just the stroke, though. Cori also dealt with complications from lupus and kidney issues, extending her hospital stay. But the good news is, she’s doing fantastic now! She’s been working on regaining some motor skills, and overall, she’s feeling much better. It’s a powerful reminder to cherish your loved ones and appreciate every step of the healing process.

Shailene Woodley struggled with serious health issues throughout her 20s. In a September 2024 podcast interview, she described losing her hearing, being unable to walk for more than a few minutes without needing to rest for hours, and experiencing constant stomach pain. She faced conflicting diagnoses from various doctors. Determined to find answers, Shailene, who has a background in herbalism, sought help from both traditional doctors and alternative healers. This search for well-being lasted for ten years. The physical discomfort led to anxiety around food and ultimately, issues with body image and a sense of self.
