Don’t Worry, Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse Is ‘Not a Roguelike’, Says Konami

At Sony’s recent State of Play event, Konami announced several updates, including news about the game Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse.

This is the latest installment in our popular action series, created by a team with a strong background in similar games.

Evil Empire is at the forefront, known for their work on Dead Cells, where they not only added support but also created a lot of extra content after the game launched, most notably the Return to Castlevania expansion.

Motion Twin, the creators of the popular game Dead Cells – which was heavily inspired by Konami’s classic series – are also joining the project as advisors.

The trailer for Belmont’s Curse looks great, but some fans are concerned the game might include roguelike features, considering the developers’ past projects.

Konami has addressed worries about the game’s style. Tommy Williams, head of communications for the Americas, confirmed to The Verge that it won’t be a roguelike or roguelite.

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse is an action-adventure game with a focus on exploring large, detailed environments. It’s a traditional game experience and doesn’t include randomly generated levels or permadeath like roguelike or roguelite titles.

Essentially, this is a traditional Castlevania experience – a single, expansive map that you explore and advance through. It’s not based on randomly generated levels, so you won’t be playing through a different castle each time.

Many fans will be happy to hear this, as some have felt that the roguelike style of game is being used too often lately.

It’s great that Konami and the developers are creating a new Castlevania game that feels like the classic titles. While they’ll likely add some updated features, it won’t be a roguelike game.

Besides the recent release of Belmont’s Curse, Konami has hinted that more Castlevania games are on the way. This is part of their plans to celebrate the series’ 40th anniversary this year.
