Double Dragon Revive is Coming to Nintendo Switch, Limited and Digital Editions Revealed

Game developer Arc System Works has shared that their upcoming brawler game, titled “Double Dragon Revive“, is set to release not only on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S as previously planned, but also on the Nintendo Switch. The PC version of “Double Dragon Revive” can be purchased from both Steam and Epic Games Store. A teaser trailer for the game has been unveiled, offering a sneak peek at some of its gameplay features.

Double Dragon Revive functions essentially as a follow-up to the original beat ’em up series, with its narrative set in a fresh but familiar universe. The game is touted as “an authentic modern beat ’em up adventure,” and it unfolds in a post-apocalyptic world devastated by nuclear conflict.

In a twist of fate, Billy and Jimmy discover that their long-time friend Marion has been abducted by the Shadow Warriors criminal group. Determined to act, these two heroes resolve to engage in hand-to-hand combat with some of the gang members in order to save Marion. The narrative bears a striking resemblance to the plotlines often found in iconic Double Dragon video games.

In terms of fundamental gameplay, “Double Dragon Revive” promises a side-scrolling brawl action reminiscent of its title. Just like the originals, players can move through levels in a vertical fashion to combat enemies approaching from various directions. The game’s structure revolves around accomplishing missions and offers four distinct characters for selection.

As a gamer, I engage in intense battles, executing complex combos by pressing the right buttons at the right moments. But it’s not just about punching and kicking – I can also seize my opponents for a variety of moves, like pummeling them harder, or hurling them into dangerous surroundings, or even into the incoming attacks of another player. Each character in this game comes armed with unique Hyper Blows, which are like a lifeline when surrounded by enemies. These Hyper Blows can push back all opponents at once, and they can be used mid-air for some truly spectacular attacks.

In terms of its gameplay elements, Double Dragon Revive will offer distinct features for each level. Not only will there be ample terrain and objects to exploit, but each stage will also come with its own set of challenges, ranging from flamethrowers mounted on walls to treacherous paths without safety rails over deep pits, which enemies can be pushed into. Some stages may even have powerful gimmicks that can instantly defeat enemies if the player manages to discover and utilize them effectively.

Arc System Works has shared information about the special versions of the game – Limited and Deluxe Editions. The Limited Edition includes the game, three character cards, and extra costumes for characters. The Deluxe Edition encompasses all contents from the Limited Edition, plus a digital soundtrack, digital artbook, a Steelbook, a physical artbook, and a poster. It’s important to mention that the Deluxe Edition of Double Dragon Revive will be exclusively available physically on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. However, a digital version of the Deluxe Edition can be found across all platforms.

In July 2024, it was revealed that Double Dragon Revive would be released. The studio characterized the gameplay as being intuitive, with a focus on mastering enemy patterns and determining optimal attack timings. At this moment, pre-orders for the game are being accepted across all platforms where it is available, and it is expected to launch on both PC and consoles on October 23rd.
