Dr. King Is In Deep Trouble In The Pitt Season 2

Dr. Melissa King is facing serious trouble in Season 2 of The Pitt. A review revealed she has a major challenge coming up. The HBO Max medical drama features a large cast, and Dr. King, played by Taylor Dearden, quickly became a fan favorite. In Season 1, she was seen as the most experienced doctor and handled a growing number of patients during a difficult time for Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. However, she’s not without flaws, and a mistake she made last season is now causing problems.

Awards Watch shared a review of The Pitt Season 2, highlighting a major plot point involving Dr. Melissa King. The review revealed that Dr. King will be facing serious trouble in the new season, as she’s scheduled to give a statement under oath in a lawsuit brought by the parents of a teenager who tragically died from measles last year.

If you’re not familiar with the legal process, a deposition is a recorded interview where people involved in lawsuits – often medical malpractice or personal injury cases – answer questions. In the show, Flynn Edwards, a patient first seen in Episode 14, is the teenager who passed away in Season 1. However, his death wasn’t actually shown on screen during that first season.

In the first season of The Pitt, Dr. King did a good job caring for difficult patients. She worked hard to help Flynn, but he was very sick with measles that had led to a dangerous complication called acute disseminated encephalomyelitis, or ADEM. ADEM is a rare immune reaction that happens after an infection and has a high risk of being fatal – around 20

The situation became even trickier because Flynn and her sister, Georgia, were brought to the hospital without their parents, who were at the movies at the time.

The innovative series The Pitt unfolds like a live, hour-by-hour drama, following the events within a hospital as the doctors complete their shifts. The show boasts a strong ensemble cast, including Noah Wyle, Shawn Hatosy, Patrick Ball, Supriya Ganesh, Fiona Dourif, Isa Briones, and Katherine LaNasa, alongside Dearden. Season 2 of The Pitt debuted on HBO Max on January 8, 2026.

What Happened to Flynn in ‘The Pitt’ Season 1

When Flynn and Georgie’s parents arrived at the hospital, the doctors wanted to perform a spinal tap to confirm if Flynn had ADEM, but the parents were reluctant. Flynn’s mother, Hillary, refused to allow the procedure, as she strongly opposed vaccines and had read misinformation online claiming spinal taps were dangerous and could cause paralysis. Her husband, Larry, was more willing to consider it, but felt torn because of his wife’s objections.

A spinal tap is crucial for Flynn to prevent his condition from worsening and to help doctors determine the best course of treatment. In the season finale, Dr. Robby convinced Larry of the procedure’s importance – showing him the potential consequences of inaction – because it offered Flynn the best chance of recovery. Delaying the spinal tap increases the risk of Flynn suffering permanent brain damage or even death.

I was on the edge of my seat! Hillary was being so stubborn, refusing to let things progress. She informed Robby and Dr. King that Flynn’s doctor was trying to get him transferred to a different hospital, but Dr. King was skeptical – he didn’t think any hospital would take Flynn without a spinal tap first. Finally, Larry broke down and told Dr. King they’d agree to the spinal tap, desperate to do everything they could to save Flynn. It was a really tense moment!

Dr. King performed the spinal tap on Flynn, and was fully responsible for his care during the procedure. She successfully collected the necessary fluid for testing, but Hillary unexpectedly intervened and insisted the needle be removed from his spine.

Despite initially being considered safe, Season 2 of The Pitt seemed to reveal Flynn’s death, largely because Dr. King faced a malpractice claim. However, there’s a possible explanation: Hillary’s husband apparently authorized Dr. King to proceed with the medical procedure. Also, the spinal tap was necessary for Flynn’s transfer to the hospital, and he could have died at the second hospital, West Penn, from unforeseen complications.

Despite the legal issues, Dr. King might be helped by Dr. Robby, who was familiar with Flynn’s situation. Robby even advised Hillary to stop researching medical concerns online and to have faith in the doctors’ expertise.
