It’s a big year for Jinkx Monsoon, who will be making her West End debut this August.
The two-time RuPaul’s Drag Race winner is currently starring in the smash-hit play End of the Rainbow, based on the life of Judy Garland, at Soho Theatre Walthamstow.
However, from 17 August onwards, you can catch her in the West End playing the lead role in the hilarious Oh, Mary!, taking over from original playwright Cole Escola.
Monsoon will take to the stage as Mary Todd Lincoln, a role which she has previously played on Broadway, where she sold out her eight-week run.
Catherine Tate, known for her role in ‘Dr. Who,’ and Olivier Award-winning actor Mason Alexander Park have both portrayed Mary Todd Lincoln on the West End stage.
Across the pond, giants of the stage and screen including Jane Krakowski, Maya Rudolph, Tituss Burgess and John Cameron Mitchell have taken Mary for a spin, with actress and funny girl about TikTok Meg Stalter taking the helm this summer.
“Oh, Mary!” portrays the troubled and increasingly unstable Mary Todd Lincoln during the weeks before her husband, President Abraham Lincoln, was assassinated.
While this may not sound like a barrel of laughs on the face of it, the play has been heralded as “one of the best comedies in years” by the New York Times and was nominated for five Tony awards, winning two.
