Drag Race: Philippines Star Misua Dead at 27

One star’s light has dimmed too soon.

Misua, a drag queen who competed on the fourth season of Drag Race: Philippines, has passed away, according to production company World of Wonder. She was 27 years old.

World of Wonder announced with deep sadness that Misua, a promising queen who was going to be on season four of Drag Race Philippines, unexpectedly passed away in her sleep on April 2nd. They remembered her as someone who brought happiness, creativity, and positivity to everyone she met, and she will be greatly missed.

The company stated that filming for the current season of Drag Race—whose contestants hadn’t been revealed yet—was temporarily stopped, and they are in communication with Misua’s family.

The statement also expressed sympathy for the family, friends, and fans of Jayson Elvie Ty.

As reported by Variety, Jayson Misua’s family posted a heartfelt message on Facebook, describing him as a beloved son, brother, friend, mentor, and a shining star. They said he will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

No additional details have been shared about her cause of death.

According to a bio shared with Variety, Misua worked as a graphic designer and had been doing drag for eight years before appearing on Drag Race.

Her biography highlights that she designs almost everything about her drag persona – including clothes, hair, nails, props, and visual elements – showcasing her incredible creativity and attention to detail.

Misua draws power from the support of her artistic community and fellow creatives who, like her, are driven to grow, achieve, and express themselves. Her drag name is a tribute to a comforting dish her grandfather used to make, reflecting the deeply personal and emotional core of her work.

Michelle Visage shared a message of love on World of Wonder’s post, and Hannah Conda from Drag Race Down Under wrote a heartbroken message expressing her support for the Filipino community. She described the person being remembered as a true star and sent her love to everyone affected.

A fan also pleaded with the show not to remove Misua from previously filmed episodes, stating, “This is her dream, and we should respect her talent and passion for drag.”
