Dragon Ball Announces Remake, Dragon Ball Super: Beerus

The Genki Dama Festival, a celebration of Dragon Ball, kicked off with a huge announcement: a new anime series adapting the Moro Arc, titled Dragon Ball: The Galactic Patrol. This set a high bar for the rest of the event. While a new game set in the future, Dragon Ball: Age 1000, was also revealed, the festival featured many other exciting announcements beyond these two major reveals.

Producer Ikio Ayuko and Masako Nozawa, the iconic Japanese voice of Son Goku, announced exciting news about a new Dragon Ball project. They were joined by Koichi Yamadera, who voices Beerus in Dragon Ball Super. The announcement revealed a remake titled Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, which will essentially retell the story of Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods. Fans won’t have to wait long, as the remake is scheduled to release this fall.

Beerus quickly became a major character in Dragon Ball Super, connecting the Saiyans of Universe Seven to the world of the gods. Along with his attendant, Whis, Beerus set his sights on Earth after hearing rumors of a Super Saiyan God. The movie Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods originally came out in 2013, so this updated version is arriving more than thirteen years later. During a recent announcement, it was confirmed that the animation is being completely redone, giving the animators the freedom to refine and improve it. While a remake of Resurrection of F wasn’t announced, this project could start a trend of bringing classic Dragon Ball stories back to life with modern animation.

During the panel, Ayuko explained that he’s aiming to stay true to Akira Toriyama’s initial story drafts when creating the new version. Although the manga and anime were already quite similar, fans can expect a few new scenes when the series returns this fall.

Dragon Ball’s Anime Comeback

Looking for details on the newest Dragon Ball anime? Here’s what the official website says: This story picks up after the “Universe Survival Arc” of Dragon Ball Super, which originally aired from 2015 to 2018. It’s also based on the “Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc” from the Dragon Ball manga. Goku and Vegeta team up with the Galactic Patrol – the galaxy’s peacekeeping force – to fight a massive battle against a powerful new villain called Moro, known as the “Planet-Eater!”
