I still find it amazing how much of an impact Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball has had, even forty years after it first appeared in Weekly Shonen Jump. It really set the standard for so many action manga and anime, and continues to inspire creators today. It’s been tough for fans since Toriyama’s passing in 2024, and the Dragon Ball Super manga went on hold. Now, it looks like Toyotaro, who worked with Toriyama on Super, will be continuing the manga, handling both the art and the story. While everyone was hoping for the manga to resume its regular schedule, there’s some good news about the latest Dragon Ball movie – it’s coming to streaming! As April begins and streaming services announce their new additions, Hulu has revealed it will be carrying the film. While Crunchyroll usually gets most new anime, Hulu is adding its own selection of series each season.
Hulu recently announced its schedule for April 2026, detailing what shows and movies are being added and removed. Although the new additions aren’t groundbreaking compared to last month, anime fans will be happy to hear that the 2022 film Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, written by Toriyama, is coming to the platform. It’s already available on Crunchyroll and Prime Video, and will be streaming on Hulu starting April 13th. Even though most of the content isn’t brand new, it’s always a good time to update your watchlist!
What Is Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero About?

The movie is officially part of the Dragon Ball story, happening between the events of ‘Dragon Ball Super: Broly’ and the ending of ‘Dragon Ball Z’. The plot focuses on Gohan and Piccolo protecting Earth while Goku and Vegeta are training with Beerus. Following his father’s defeat by Goku, a man named Magenta returns seeking revenge on Goku and his friends. He rebuilds the Red Ribbon Army and recruits Dr. Hero, the grandson of the notorious Dr. Gero, who previously created dangerous Androids. Tricked by Magenta into thinking Earth’s heroes are actually alien invaders, Dr. Hero builds a new series of Androids to fight them. With Goku and Vegeta away, Piccolo and Gohan are Earth’s primary defense. However, Gohan has given up fighting and is now dedicated to his family and studies. But when the new Androids threaten those he loves, he’s forced to act.
Driven by a desire for revenge after his father lost to a young Goku, Magenta targets Goku’s family and friends. He attempts to rebuild the disbanded Red Ribbon Army and enlists the help of Dr. Hedo, the grandson of the notorious scientist Dr. Gero. Hedo begins creating powerful androids, believing Earth’s heroes are actually dangerous aliens – a deception orchestrated by Magenta to eliminate Goku.
With Goku and Vegeta training elsewhere, Piccolo takes on the task of guiding Pan, Goku’s young granddaughter, just as he once trained her father, Gohan. Gohan, however, has chosen a life of study instead of fighting. But both Piccolo and Gohan are forced back into action when Hedo unleashes his new androids, Gamma 1 and Gamma 2, disrupting their peaceful lives.
I’ve been watching the Gamma androids, and they genuinely seem to think they’re doing the right thing, fighting for what they believe is justice. But it turns out there’s something much darker going on behind the scenes at Red Ribbon headquarters. Seeing that, Gohan and Piccolo didn’t hesitate – they took serious risks to keep Pan safe and protect the Earth from this new robot threat.
