Fans of Dragon Ball are eagerly anticipating the continuation of both the manga and anime series. A key reason is their excitement to see Frieza’s newest, most powerful form – Black Frieza – animated. This transformation debuted in the manga’s “Granolah the Survivor” arc, and fans are hoping the anime will bring this updated look and massive power increase for the villain who destroyed Planet Vegeta to life.
Released almost ten years ago in 2016, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is still receiving updates from Bandai Namco Entertainment. The next downloadable content, “Future Saga Chapter 3,” arrives on October 30th and brings the villain Frieza back into the action. Although Black Frieza won’t appear, Frieza is getting a powerful new upgrade called “Golden Frieza – Ultra Supervillain.” This new form expands on a transformation previously given to other villains – like Broly, Cell, and Kid Buu – who fought against the Time Patrol. You can see this upgraded Frieza in action in the new trailer for Future Saga Chapter 3.
What is “Supervillain” in Dragon Ball?
The ability to transform into a powerful “supervillain” form has been available in the Xenoverse games since the second installment, and it comes with a purple energy boost. In the latest version for Frieza, the transformation seems to be a result of the villainous scientist Fuu granting him increased power through a wish on the Dragon Balls. While it’s unlikely this form will appear in the main Dragon Ball storyline, the new series Dragon Ball Daima is already incorporating elements from Dragon Ball GT, suggesting anything is possible for the Z-Fighters now.
Currently, there’s no official confirmation of a new Dragon Ball anime series or a continuation of the manga. Although the series won’t be featured at this year’s Jump Festa, a large event called “Dragon Ball Genki Dama Festival” is planned for 2026. This event is expected to include significant announcements about the future of the franchise, and fans are hoping for exciting news.
For viewers who don’t know, Black Frieza gained his power by training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber for years. When he returned, this new form allowed him to instantly defeat Gas, and then easily overcome both Goku (in his Ultra Instinct form) and Vegeta (with Ultra Ego). Now the strongest being in the universe, Frieza will be incredibly difficult to beat.
