A new Super Saiyan character designed by Akira Toriyama before his passing in 2024 has been unveiled as part of the celebration of Dragon Ball‘s 40th anniversary. The anniversary is being marked with a special event in Japan and the announcement of future plans for the franchise, including a new project that features a story and character designs created with Toriyama’s involvement.
Bandai Namco Entertainment is working on a new Dragon Ball video game, created with the help of Akira Toriyama, the original creator of the franchise. Currently planned for release in 2027, the game will introduce a brand-new Dragon Ball world and original characters designed by Toriyama, including a mysterious character who can achieve the Super Saiyan form. You can find a first look at the game’s teaser trailer and artwork below.
What Is Dragon Ball Age 1000?
The new Dragon Ball game, currently codenamed “Age 1000,” is planned for release by Bandai Namco Entertainment in 2027. Details about the story, which is being created with influence from Toriyama, are still scarce, but it will feature a new, enigmatic fighter associated with Capsule Corporation. The game takes place far in the future of the Dragon Ball universe, suggesting that the series’ main characters may no longer be active.
This setup is especially interesting because Age 1000 features a main character who fights alongside virtual versions of the most famous Dragon Ball warriors, including Goku. The character can even transform into a Super Saiyan, leaving fans to wonder if they’re a distant Saiyan relative from the future, or if there’s another explanation. Whatever the case, it’s just another reason to watch for announcements during Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2026 on April 18th and 19th.
What’s Next for Dragon Ball?

I’ve been following the news about Dragon Ball, and it sounds like they have a lot more in store for fans! It turns out they’re revisiting the original series this fall with a remake called Dragon Ball Super: Beerus. From what I understand, this isn’t just a re-airing; they’re adding new scenes, updated visuals, and refreshed artwork to bring Toriyama’s original concept for the Battle of Gods arc to life even more vividly. And if that wasn’t enough, a completely new anime is also in the works!
The popular anime Dragon Ball Super will continue with a new series adapting the ‘Galactic Patrol Prisoner’ storyline from the manga, titled Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol. While a release date hasn’t been announced yet, the new series will finally bring the character Planet Eater Moro to the anime, which fans have been eagerly anticipating for years.
