I was really excited to see the official designs for Super Saiyan 4 Goku and Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta – Akira Toriyama’s work always looks amazing! It was all part of a big celebration for Dragon Ball’s 40th anniversary. Shueisha’s Shonen Jump magazine held a huge event in Japan this weekend, giving fans a glimpse of what’s coming next for the series. It wasn’t just about the future, though; they also showcased a lot of the history and evolution of Dragon Ball over the years.
During the event, fans got a special look at official character designs by the late Akira Toriyama, spanning his years working on Dragon Ball. Toriyama contributed many designs and story ideas for Dragon Ball Daima before his death, including the first official appearances of Super Saiyan 4 Goku and Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta. Thanks to V-Jump magazine, fans can now see Toriyama’s designs for these highly anticipated forms. You can find them below.
Akira Toriyama’s Designs for SSJ4 Goku and SSJ3 Vegeta Revealed

The start of Dragon Ball Daima was controversial with fans due to the plot device of turning Goku and his friends into children. However, the series finished strongly, delivering the excitement many viewers were hoping for. A key reason was the final battle, which allowed Goku and Vegeta, despite spending most of the series as children, to unveil completely new transformations never before seen in the anime – and both were unexpected.
The new series, Dragon Ball Daima, revealed that Vegeta secretly trained to achieve the Super Saiyan 3 transformation after the Majin Buu saga, and eventually mastered it – though he never used it until now. Goku’s use of Super Saiyan 4 is more complex, as its place in the official Dragon Ball timeline differs from its original appearance in Dragon Ball GT.
Can Goku Use SSJ4 in Dragon Ball Super?
There’s been discussion about Goku’s new Super Saiyan 4 form. It first appeared in Dragon Ball Daima and was achieved through magic, allowing Goku to reach a higher power level. He initially stated he’d been working towards this transformation, implying it wasn’t a one-time fluke. However, recent updates have changed that understanding.
In Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, Goku jokes that he’s just gotten used to being small again after achieving Super Saiyan 4. This suggests that he might only be able to transform into that form under those specific conditions, which could explain why it doesn’t appear in Dragon Ball Super.
