Dragon Ball Super Anime Remake Is the Perfect Chance to Make Daima Canon (and It Can’t Miss It)

The story of Dragon Ball Super kicked off with Beerus, a powerful god, arriving on Earth to find the Super Saiyan God. This event dramatically increased the power levels within the Dragon Ball universe, making earlier stories seem less powerful in comparison. It also officially excluded Dragon Ball GT from the main storyline. Because fans generally consider Dragon Ball Super to be the most recent and official continuation of the series – especially with a new anime arc, the Moro Arc, now in production – its place in the timeline seemed secure. However, a new anime was released just over a year ago that actually takes place before the events of Super.

The new series, Dragon Ball Daima, surprised fans by changing established story details. A major point of contention is the introduction of Super Saiyan 4, which doesn’t quite fit with the events of Dragon Ball Super. In Super, Goku specifically says Super Saiyan 3 was his limit before becoming a god. Since both series are considered official canon, Super Saiyan 4 creates a contradiction. However, with a remake of Dragon Ball Super on the way, there’s a chance to resolve this inconsistency and make everything fit together.

The Dragon Ball Super Remake Can Solidify Daima’s Canon Status With a Simple Fix

As a huge Dragon Ball fan, it’s always been exciting thinking about what counts as ‘official’ story! Most fans, myself included, see Daima as totally canon because it was the last project Akira Toriyama himself worked on. Super is also widely accepted, especially with its long run and the fact that there’s a manga adaptation. But here’s the tricky part: Daima brings back Super Saiyan 4, which Super completely ignores! It makes it hard to fit both series neatly into one timeline. Still, the upcoming remake of Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is really interesting. They’re revisiting the beginning of Super with improved animation and a story that’s supposed to be much closer to the manga. That could potentially open things up and allow for Daima to fit in more seamlessly – I’m really hoping it does!

If the creators want both Daima and Super to officially fit within the same story timeline, the remake needs to explain Super Saiyan 4. It could do this by including the transformation directly, or at least confirming that it exists. Daima explains that Super Saiyan 4 is achieved through magic, so the remake could show that Goku can’t access it outside the Demon Realm because of this magical connection. However, even that wouldn’t fully establish Daima as part of the official story, as other important issues still need to be addressed.

The series Daima introduced Rymus, a character said to have created the universes. This is surprising because Super, which often features ancient, powerful beings, never mentioned anyone like him. This difference suggests that Daima and Super might not actually be connected as a single story. Trying to make them fit together could be too difficult. Fans are now wondering if Daima, even if considered official, exists in its own separate universe. This would mean any future Daima content would be a completely new anime, independent of Super.
