2026 started with big news for Dragon Ball! At a special 40th-anniversary event called the Genki Dama Matsuri, it was announced that a remake of Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods will be released this fall. The film will revisit the story of Goku encountering Beerus, the God of Destruction, who is searching for the Super Saiyan God. Beerus expects an easy victory, but Goku proves to be a formidable opponent, making Beerus question his search. When Beerus threatens Earth, Goku and the other Saiyans must unlock a legendary transformation with very specific requirements.
Though fans are more excited about the new Dragon Ball Super: Galactic Patrol anime, there’s good news about the Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods remake. According to a post by @Venixys on X, the remake features completely updated visuals, sound, and editing. It also includes new scenes and has been entirely re-filmed to closely match Akira Toriyama’s original concepts. The original movie, written by Toriyama himself, came out in 2013, before the Dragon Ball Super manga started.
What to Expect From Dragon Ball Super in The Future

Although fans are thrilled about the anime’s comeback, the future of the manga remains uncertain even two years later. Following Akira Toriyama’s passing in March 2024, a special chapter was released in February 2025, but the manga has since gone back on indefinite hold. While Toyotaro, the artist for Dragon Ball Super, is expected to continue the story, there’s been no news about when regular chapters will resume. The anime still has three more story arcs to cover after the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga, but it’s unclear if the manga will continue at all for the foreseeable future.
The original Dragon Ball story created by Toriyama will continue in a new anime called Galactic Patrol, which picks up eight years after the Tournament of Power ended. This new arc sends Goku and Vegeta on an adventure with the Galactic Patrol, where they must stop Moro, a powerful, ancient wizard who has escaped from prison and devours planets. Moro is one of the strongest villains the series has ever seen, and Goku and Vegeta will need to become even more powerful if they hope to defeat him and send him back to prison.
I’m so hyped for April 2026! The Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour is coming back, and it sounds like they have some amazing surprises planned for us. While the event is mostly about the games, they’re also doing a Dragon Ball Super panel, which is a huge hint that we’ll finally get some news about the new remake movie! It’s all going down at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in Los Angeles, but the best part is, they’re livestreaming everything on the Battle Hour YouTube channel, so anyone can tune in and see what’s revealed – you won’t even need to be there in person!
