Fans of Dragon Ball are eagerly anticipating new manga chapters and anime episodes. Although the series wasn’t featured at this year’s Jump Festa, there’s still exciting news: a major event is planned for 2026 to reveal the future of the franchise. In the meantime, Dragon Ball is staying active with a special road opening in Japan.
Tokyo’s Nakano Ward is getting a vibrant makeover with the new “Nakano Mural Anime Road.” While it won’t be officially named after any specific anime, the street will be decorated with murals celebrating classic anime series. The project will kick off with artwork from Dragon Ball, and will also feature characters from popular shows like Puss in Boots, Mazinger Z, and Galaxy Express 999, among others. An official launch date hasn’t been announced yet, but we’ll share updates as soon as they become available.

Hiroto Masamura, head of the Nakano Connecting Through Anime Executive Committee, shared details about the new anime-themed street. He explained that the project began in 2017 with a collaboration between the Nakano branch of the Tokyo Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Nakano Ward, aiming to boost the local economy using anime. This effort has attracted anime companies to Nakano, creating a growing local industry. While they’ve previously hosted anime-related events, the new ‘Nakano Mural Anime Road’ will offer year-round enjoyment for fans and visitors, and Masamura encourages everyone to watch Nakano continue to grow as a center for both culture and business.
Toei Animation President Katsuhiro Takagi also shared his excitement about the project. He noted that 2026 will be a special year for Toei Animation, marking its 70th anniversary, and that the company has been located in Nakano, a hub for anime fans, since 2013. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to design the power distribution equipment in Nakano, featuring artwork from 19 beloved anime series. Toei Animation hopes that people visiting Nakano will enjoy seeing these visuals and encourages continued support for both the company and the town’s vibrant anime culture. They plan to continue creating anime for fans around the world for many years to come.
