In its fresh anime adaptation, Dragon Ball Daima significantly revised key aspects of the long-standing Dragon Ball franchise created by Akira Toriyama. One of these revisions, however, rules out the possibility of the grand saga in Dragon Ball GT being recognized as part of the main storyline. A captivating aspect of Dragon Ball’s later phases has been the incorporation of previously non-canonical characters and events into the official series timeline. Characters like Broly received a refreshed portrayal from Toriyama himself, and Dragon Ball Daima builds on this trend by integrating even more elements originating from Dragon Ball GT as well.
In the revamped version of Dragon Ball Daima, elements from Dragon Ball GT were integrated into the established lore, shocking fans with the legitimization of Super Saiyan 4 Goku. However, these adjustments have led to a shift in the series’ timeline that prevents the Shadow Dragons saga from being acknowledged as part of the anime’s forthcoming storyline.
Dragon Ball’s Shadow Dragons Might Be Impossible Now
As a passionate fan, I can’t help but notice the intentional similarities between the latest “Dragon Ball Daimaō” and the classic series, “Dragon Ball GT.” The creative team behind this new anime seems to be drawing heavy inspiration from it, which is no surprise given the nostalgic appeal of “Dragon Ball GT.”
Unfortunately, “Dragon Ball GT” faced criticism from fans due to its creation without Akira Toriyama’s direct involvement. As a result, it wasn’t considered an official part of the Dragon Ball timeline. Despite this, there were elements in “Dragon Ball GT” that captivated us, such as the emergence of the Shadow Dragons. These creatures, born from the dark energies accumulated within the Dragon Balls over years of use and abuse, were a fascinating addition to the series.
Intriguingly, these same themes seem to be resurfacing in “Dragon Ball Daimaō,” adding an exciting layer of anticipation for fans like me who appreciate the rich lore of the Dragon Ball universe.
In the series Dragon Ball Daima, it was intriguing to see how the Dragon Balls had become a reliance for Goku and his companions throughout the franchise, and the final boss confronted Earth with the consequences of relying on this magic for so long. Interestingly, Dragon Ball Daima introduced a shift in the functioning of the Earth’s Dragon Balls. Although it seemed like a humorous touch, Shenron disclosed that those who frequently used the Dragon Balls had more wish-granting potential compared to first-time users.
What Does This Mean for the Shadow Dragons?
In simpler terms, this implies that Shenron himself encourages more Dragon Ball summonings. Unlike the ones from GT, these Dragon Balls don’t break with repeated use. Instead, it seems Shenron can adjust the amount of magic he uses based on who summons him. This also suggests that the accumulation of negative energy, as seen in the Shadow Dragons saga, might not occur in the same manner here.
Although Dragon Ball Daima managed to incorporate certain aspects of Dragon Ball GT into the main storyline of Dragon Ball, this intriguing concept will never become canonical itself. It’s unlikely that a Shenron who voluntarily grants more wishes would ever be involved. This isn’t a Shenron that gradually amasses some formidable dark energy as a result of being used excessively, nor is it one that aims to retaliate against Goku and the rest.
For Dragon Ball fans, there could potentially be a new spin on the Shadow Dragons in future installments of Dragon Ball Super, although it’s uncertain whether the series will continue with new chapters. It’s also possible that the series may never return at all, so we’ll have to wait and see what happens.
This version aims to clarify the uncertainty surrounding the continuation of Dragon Ball Super while still maintaining a natural and easy-to-read style.
