Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined Announced for PC and Consoles, Out on February 5, 2026

After whispers of a remake for the iconic RPG “Dragon Quest 7: Fragments of the Forgotten Past” circulated for some time, Square Enix has finally made it official during Nintendo’s latest Direct presentation. The game now bears the title “Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined“. Additionally, Square Enix announced that this remake will be released on various platforms including PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and even the Switch 2 on February 5, 2026.

In a refreshing take, Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined promises to deliver brand new visuals that preserve the authentic charm of the original while elevating them to meet today’s graphical standards. The iconic Akira Toriyama-inspired elements will remain intact. In addition to these visual enhancements, the gameplay has been fine-tuned and pacing of the narrative has been optimized for a more enjoyable experience compared to the original version.

Title suggestively hints that the narrative in Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined has undergone a few modifications compared to the original version. To put it simply, Square Enix refers to these alterations as an attempt to simplify the same storyline. At the heart of the game lies a major journey, but there will also be additional side quests, tales, and mini-games for players to explore if they wish.

In the revamped version, known as Reimagined, the traditional combat system from Dragon Quest 7: Fragments of the Forgotten Past has undergone significant changes. The updated Vocation system is one of the major alterations, and a new feature called Moonlighting has been introduced. This innovative mechanic allows characters to hold dual vocations simultaneously.

Additionally, there’s a new ability called Let Loose, which empowers characters to release more of their potential in battle. Lastly, an entirely fresh Monster Master Vocation has been included, focusing on the summoning of powerful creatures to reinforce your party during combat.

In the year 2000, Dragon Quest 7: Fragments of the Forgotten Past marked the first installment in the series for the original PlayStation. The narrative centers around a fisherman’s son, along with his companions – the rebellious prince Kiefer and the pampered daughter of the wealthiest merchant in town, Maribel. Essentially, the tale unfolds within a town that is isolated from the broader world, lying only on a limited region of land.

In response to this call to action, our trio embarks on a thrilling journey that exposes them to the vastness of the world beyond, and they encounter the formidable powers of the Demon King Orgodemir along the way.

In addition to its Standard Edition, the remake of Dragon Quest 7, named Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, will also offer a Collector’s Edition. This special edition can only be purchased through the Square Enix store. The Collector’s Edition comes with the actual game, a SteelBook case for its sleek presentation, a Smile Slime Plush toy, a Ship in a Bottle figure, and several in-game items such as the Road of Regal Wretches, Luminary’s Livery, Jam-Packed Swag Bag, and Ruff Costume.

An Advanced Pre-Order Option for the Digital Deluxe Version is now open, granting early access to play “Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined” two days ahead of its official release.
