Square Enix and HexaDrive just released a new trailer for the upcoming RPG, Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, showcasing the game’s opening cinematic. They’ve also announced a free demo will be available starting January 7th. Like other Square Enix RPGs, the demo will let you play through the beginning of the game, and you’ll be able to continue your progress in the full version when it launches on February 5th. In addition to trying out the Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined demo, players will receive a special in-game costume—the Day Off Dress for Maribel—when they purchase the full game. It’s currently unclear whether you need to finish the demo to unlock the costume. The demo will be available on PC (through Steam), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and the new Switch 2 console.
The game’s opening movie beautifully establishes the classic fairy tale look that fans expect from Dragon Quest. It introduces the starting village of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined and showcases the strong bond between the three main characters: the player, Prince Kiefer, and Maribel, the merchant’s daughter. The movie also offers quick glimpses of other characters and hints at the adventures they’ll all share throughout the game.
Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined is a remake of the beloved RPG Dragon Quest 7: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. Though the main story will stay true to the original, Square Enix is updating the writing to make it more concise and enjoyable. The game will also include extra optional content like side quests, stories, and minigames for players to find and play.
The game’s combat system is receiving significant updates, particularly to its turn-based mechanics, through an improved vocation system. A new feature called Moonlighting will let characters master two vocations simultaneously, offering greater flexibility. Players will also gain access to a ‘Let Loose’ ability, increasing their characters’ power, and a new ‘Monster Master’ vocation focused on befriending and summoning monsters to fight alongside them.
In Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, the story follows the people of a secluded town who are unaware of the world beyond their borders. Three heroes embark on a journey to explore this larger world and battle the Demon King Orgodemir. You can see the main characters in the previous trailer for the game. The game also features a brand new ending that changes based on the decisions you make while playing.
