Akira Toriyama, the recently deceased artist, greatly influenced the popular look of the Dragon Quest series. However, some fans aren’t thrilled with the art style chosen for the upcoming Dragon Quest 7 remake.
In a new video from the game’s creator, Yuji Horii, Square Enix revealed they built physical models of the main characters – the Hero, Kiefer, and others – and then scanned them into the game.
This is all in an effort to create a “diorama” style look.

The developer also explained that this release will be easier to pick up and play, with some parts of the game simplified or adjusted to make it more manageable.
If you’re feeling annoyed by these changes, remember that finishing the original PlayStation game takes about 80 hours, and completing absolutely everything can take around 170. So, a little bit of simplification is probably a good thing.
The video also revealed that players can now learn two classes, or “Vocations,” allowing them to combine different skills and create a more customized gameplay experience.
