
The original Dragon Quest 7 for PlayStation was the last major game in the series to use only 2D, sprite-based graphics. That’s why it’s exciting to see Square Enix completely remake the game with Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined.
This isn’t a complete overhaul like the Final Fantasy 7 Remake or even the recent Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter, but it *is* a full remake, completely rebuilt with new assets.
Square Enix has released comparison pictures showing how Final Fantasy VII has changed over time, featuring the original PlayStation version, the 2013 3DS update, and the new Reimagined version all together.

It’ll be a few months before we can play Reimagined – it’s scheduled for release next February – but early impressions suggest it’s a significant step up in quality compared to games like the Dragon Quest HD-2D Remakes. It will be interesting to see how much the publisher promotes it before it comes out.
