So, Square Enix just dropped 15 minutes of gameplay footage and a bunch of screenshots for the Dragon Quest VII Reimagined remake! It’s from the first hands-on previews that went live today, and I’m already hyped to see how it’s shaping up.
I just watched some gameplay footage, and it showed off two really cool parts of the game. They took us to Emberdale, which is an area you visit pretty early on, and then to Wetlock, which comes up a bit later in the story. Both looked amazing!
The Emberdale video shows the heroes arriving during the town’s Flaming Festival. Despite a local fortune teller predicting the volcano – which the festival centers around – will erupt that day, the celebrations continue. The heroes then begin looking into why the fortune teller made that prediction.

The Wetlock footage begins with an old bard entering town, playing a beautiful song that draws the people towards a magical portal leading to Highendreigh Tower. He hopes to save them from a predicted flood, and this sets the heroes on a journey to discover what’s causing the disaster.
This update introduces the Moonlighting system, letting each character take on a second job in addition to their primary class. This opens up lots of possibilities for unique skill combinations – you could have a hero who’s both a Sailor and a Thief, or Maribel as a Priestess and Mage, and even Ruff as a Martial Artist and Warrior. Switching between these jobs is much easier than in the original Dragon Quest VII – you can now change them instantly with a press of the d-pad, without needing to visit a specific location.
The video also shows a quick glimpse of the game’s new menus, which use tabs – a first for the Dragon Quest series. Unlike older Dragon Quest games that used traditional windows for menus, Dragon Quest VII Reimagined has a more updated interface designed for easier use.
The updated version of Dragon Quest VII, called Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, will be available worldwide on February 5, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC (through Steam and the Microsoft Store).
