Hold on, Drake is going home.
The Toronto-born rapper known as “God’s Plan” holds Amsterdam close to his heart, as this city is significant because it is where he and his ex, Sophie Brussaux, welcomed their son Adonis over seven years ago.
Drake, previously known as Aubrey Graham, shared with the audience during his July 30 performance in Amsterdam, as captured on viral videos, that he had mentioned earlier backstage, “This is a significant spot for me.” He continued, “It holds a special place in my heart because this is where my child was conceived.
Mentioning how significant it was for him to perform in the city, the 38-year-old expressed, “Amsterdam played a crucial role in my journey, so here’s a big thank you to everyone!
Sophie had Adonis in October 2017, but Drake initially doubted the child was his. It wasn’t until June 2018 that the former Degrassi star publicly acknowledged his paternity. In the song “Emotionless” on his Scorpion album, he rapped, “I wasn’t hiding my kid from the world / I was hiding the world from my kid.
Later on, Drake openly acknowledged that his path to parenthood wasn’t the most conventional, given the complex nature of his relationship with Sophie, who had previously worked in the adult entertainment industry.
He opened up on HBO’s The Shop in October 2018, saying, “I’m a single father trying to understand a woman with whom I’ve had some challenging moments. I want my son to know what took place between us, but I don’t want him to stop loving his mother. I never want him to feel resentment towards her.
Drake went on saying, “We’ve landed in this predicament, and we share the same accountability for it. Right now, I can’t help but feel thrilled about being an amazing dad.
Ever since then, I’ve made it a point to be an active part of my son’s life, and that includes Drake. In fact, I went all out for Adonis’ birthday last October, throwing him a birthday bash with a Spongebob Squarepants theme!
“Baby goat,” he wrote on Instagram in a tribute to his little one, “you are different.”
