Since its first movie, Antz, premiered in 1998, DreamWorks Animation has become a major player in the world of animation. Competing with studios like Disney and Pixar, DreamWorks has created over 50 successful films, including popular franchises like Shrek and Kung Fu Panda. Now, one of their most beloved series is coming to Netflix very soon.
The popular animated series How to Train Your Dragon, featuring the adventures of Hiccup and Toothless, is coming to Netflix next month! Starting February 1st, you’ll be able to stream the first two movies, How to Train Your Dragon and How to Train Your Dragon 2. The live-action How to Train Your Dragon will be added on February 10th. These films will join the show How to Train Your Dragon: Race to the Edge already available on the platform. However, the third movie, How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, won’t be included in the Netflix release.
How To Train Your Dragon Helped DreamWorks Soar to New Heights
It’s hard to overstate how successful How to Train Your Dragon was for DreamWorks Animation – it truly changed things for the studio. Before this film, DreamWorks was known for funny, pop-culture-driven movies like Shrek and Shark Tale. How to Train Your Dragon proved they could create deeply moving, visually stunning stories. With a remarkable 99% score on Rotten Tomatoes, it remains DreamWorks’ highest-rated film. Critics and audiences alike praised its incredible animation, which felt almost lifelike and rivaled even Pixar’s best work. The film’s emotional story, a blend of a coming-of-age tale and exciting action, continues to connect with viewers of all ages.
The first How to Train Your Dragon film was both a critical and commercial success, earning two Academy Award nominations and bringing in $495 million worldwide – making it the tenth-highest-grossing movie of 2010. It also launched a hugely popular franchise for DreamWorks. The entire How to Train Your Dragon series has now earned over $2.3 billion globally, with two of its films ranking among DreamWorks’ top ten highest-grossing movies of all time. The franchise has expanded beyond the films to include short films, TV series, and video games, and continues to grow – a live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon 2 is currently being filmed and is scheduled to be released in theaters on June 11, 2027.
What’s New on Netflix?
Netflix users eager to watch the How to Train Your Dragon movies will have to wait a few more days, but there’s still plenty to enjoy! Throughout January, Netflix added the Despicable Me films and the latest season of Pokémon Horizons. After the first two How to Train Your Dragon movies become available on February 1st, viewers can also look forward to the original Night at the Museum trilogy arriving on the platform at the beginning of the month while they wait for the live-action How to Train Your Dragon film.
